the original battery that ships with the hmc fell apart today as i went to grab it from my case. I dont understand how that happened. im very careful with all my equipment, i baby this stuff, and it fell apart. its always in my storm case and nothing is around it for it to bang up on another thing. ive only used it maybe like 10 ten times. the back of the battery where the connector is, that whole back piece came off and is dangling by a piece of copper that goes from the body to the contacts on the back plate. This sucks, luckily i had the one that i received from the rebate. I wish batteries were covered under the warranty. anyone know where is a good place to buy a new one for a good price.

Thanks
Ninos

I shop at B&H. The high-capacity battery is good stuff..

But apart from that, perhaps it would still be a good idea to give Panasonic a call? I think they would not warranty battery life (ie. how long it runs for) but this sounds like a problem with the battery's construction. Call them and see anyway, can't hurt.

I'd send it back to Panny for replacement right away. Where did you buy the cam--run it (warranty issue) through them.

i bought it from willoughbys.com their in new york. I got a hold of panny and they said a technician will call me tomorrow. so i'll have to wait and see what he says. ok as i was typing this someone from panny called me and basically said that the battery is only covered for about 90 days after the purchase of the cam. he said that he has never seen or heerd of this happening before and asked me if i had dropped the battery. it is basically brand new and does not have one scratch on it. he said he's going to see what he can do and give me a call back tomorrow. pretty cool guy, usually customer service/support/repair/help desk from what ever company is horrible, im liking panny's.

I wish you the best, and hope all gets resolved and you get a new camera - one is absolutely due you.

That said... DAIYUM!! That sh|t is scaaaary! WTF!!! I'ma gonna have nightmares now. Time to buy 3 extra batteries just in case. Whew!

So i got a call today from the panny tech, he said that the battery is only warrantied for 90days and there's nothing he can do about it. Looks like i have to buy a new one. so for future reference guys, the only thing that's covered under the warranty is the camera it self, no cables, batteries, adapters, etc.

Don't get another small battery. Check this out, Anton Bauer makes a 10,500 mAh battery and the stock battery is 2,500 mAh. I will sell DVXusers the Anton Bauer set-up for less than our advertised price, for $295. I have the Panasonic DVX100/HVX200/HPX170 cables in stock but it's 4 business days to get the HMC150/HMC40 cable or JVC HM100 cable. This is all new inventory, no BSTOCK or DEMO.
