Hi I will be grateful if someone upload some c-log footage straight from camera . I live far away from rent shop , so there is not so easy to rent it and check it myself . I am thinking to jump from fs100 to c100 I need help . please and thank you .
Here you go put this together quickly for you, nothing special just random ungraded footage. I've left it downloadable and will delete in a few days. Hope it helps.
I needed these too. Is there a nicer, more helpful community ever out there? You guys are great. Thank you!
Do these files when downloaded represent the exact same quality/compresion I would get from a C100 file straight off the card? In terms of grading is this a 100% native representative? Vimeo (or you) applied any kind of compression/transcode?
Not with mine it was exported from FCPX using master file then uploaded straight to Vimeo. I also uploaded it in apple Proxy to skip another compression by Vimeo so it should be pretty close to the original files.
Mine was exported via Premiere Pro to H.264. Vimeo adds it's own compression I would assume. The original looks cleaner with slightly less artifacts on my computer. As for color correcting, this was done very fast and I did very minimal adjustements, you could do more with the original footage though.
Hi everyone! Here's a link to a direct file off of the SD card. So this is AVCHD, ungraded and recorded with C-log. I had an Atomos Blade connected to it so I used the ProRes file for the edit. The AVCHD file was my backup file.
The reason I want these is that I want to see how much difference the quality is to the C300 that I used and loved. I want t see if the AVCHD a major step down from the MXF. Codec in the C300. My local dealer is selling the the C100 OG for 3800$ which is very tempting after the price drop for a pro video camera, I paid that much for a 5D when it came out!
The first two files posted here were shockingly bad quality in terms of codec grading ability, they look great when directly viewed but once you start doing even the littlist of grading it fell apart very badly, no room for even minor adjustment, fortunately they're not straight off the card so it might be the cause of bad compreesion artefacts.
Glad I could help. I don't think grading off of Vimeo downloads would work with any camera since the bitrate is meant for web delivery and not colour grading so that wouldn't be an accurate test at all. However, I'm not sure grading c-log recorded in the AVCHD codec is great either. You'd be better off working footage in wide dynamic range. If you want the ProRes version, let me know. That's very gradable (is that a word?). Of course you'd need a ninja star and a CF fast card for another $500 I think.
It looks quite worrying though how much compression there is compared to a C300 file. The image just falls apart from doing a minor contrast push just to De-log the gamma. Tons of compression artefacts and noise in the shadows and on moving objects, just a simple curve adjustment to get contrast back gives me this:
Does that look normal? I mean I don't even see that even in the 5D footage, I can push them more (perhaps because it's a 90mbps All-i codec vs 24mbps long-gop on the c100?). It is very sharp and colours and great though. It would be helpful if you can find the same clip in ProRes just to see how much improvement there is. Thank you again.
Keep in mind though that when outputting to ProRes, no noise reduction is applied by the camera so in some cases it may appear noisier than the AVCHD footage. However that noise is fine grained and easily removed with a bit of noise reduction in post.
