or Sony RX10: What we've been looking for from Panasonic?

Just wondering what downsides you gguys have found with using DRO for video?

I think you have to be careful not to go overboard when using it. And don't let it become a crutch
for not lighting things properly.
I must admit however, when I shoot these coaches I rarely use additional lighting.
Most of the times I am taking stills so it is not a real issue. I can use slow shutter or HDR.
I did use DRO when I had white counter tops and the dark wood.
I think I only went as high as 2. I did some testing at 5,4 & 3 but
5 and 4 made everything very flat. Perhaps if you shot ProRes with an external
recorder then the higher DRO settings might be useful.

the impression i got when trying out DRO was that it was like making a light C curve in post with a bit of an inverse S if that makes sense. it just seemed to affect midtones more than i'd liked and i've stopped using it until i've had time to test it out more in different situations. this is the only clip i have up trying it out and you can see what it does to skintones. it's strait from the camera

My son's marching band was in the Christmas parade,
so what's a dad supposed to do?
Go play with his SonyRX10.
Shot standard -1,-1,-2
Auto focus, AWB, active stabilizer.
No CC in FCPX.
Rode external shotgun mic.

Hey guys...Just a comparison report.

If you tilt your RX10 forward to backward, do you feel the lens move inside the camera? Mine does this and I can even hear it. As if an element is shifting? Is this normal or do I have a bad unit? Tilt the camera forward, then backward and listen...
Thanks

Power on your camera and move it around.
You won't hear anything then.
Mine makes the same noise when powered off.

I just noticed the same last night when I was taking it out of the case, wondered if it was the hood, took it off and moved it some more and same clunking.

Sounds like its normal then. Wow Stephen, that post goes all the way back to 2006! I think I had a CD player back then.

Are you sure you're not hearing the clicking of the camera strap things on the side? I've taken mine off and don't seem to hear any clicking.

Yeah, I hold all straps and camera tight. The sound is from inside. It's not just audible. I can feel the thing move. Mostly when camera is turned off.

Hmm, I see what you mean. It's a much more subtle sound, gotta hold my ear up to the camera to hear it. Doesn't seem to be anything abnormal though.

^Yup, perfectly normal. You should hear some of the camcorders I've owned in the past with OIS. Some sounded like there were marbles loose inside of them. Until you know what it is, it can be very disconcerting.

How much of a shooting time you get, average, shooting video with RX10? I hear not a lot, about 1 hour per battery, is it true.. So if using for video, you'd need 6 batteries it seems at least.

I guess if you were recording hours at a time….the clip limit is 29.5 min. You have to stop and start the camera recording before reaching 29.5 min per clip so the camera won't stop.
To be honest with you I cannot remember the last time I did a continuous recording that was more than an hour.
I was shooting for 3 hours on and off the other day and did not go through the battery. I shot another 2 hours the next day before the battery was at about 10%.
I did buy 2 additional batteries and the Sony BC-QM1 external battery charger for the NP-FW50 batteries.
The little charger that comes with the camera only recharges the battery while it is in the camera. My only gripe…..

I know. I couldn't believe that. The first camera I've ever owned where I was like, "seriously?" B&H still shows the charger on pre-order. Do you already have the charger?

I ordered it right after I got the camera. I received the charger, batteries and more flash cards on Friday. Typically I want to run around with a camera for a few days before I order extra batteries and chargers and such.
