Optar or Sony Cinealta lens

Hey guys, I'm pretty hung up on the very small list of PL lens choices I have due to my very small budget for what will be my only lens for the next few months...So since you guys have more experience with the F35 I figured I'd ask you guys which lens between a new Sony 35mm Cinealta lens or an Optar 25mm or Optar 50mm (S16)...To be honest with you guys I'm pretty confused on rather the Optar 25mm and 50mm would be fine on the F35 since these are the S16 versions? But I figured since the focal length isn't as wide then maybe I'll be fine. So anyway what do you guys think...will the Optar 25 or 50mm S16 work on the F35? and if so, then which focal length would be better walk around lens considering I can only purchase one lens for now? And last, whats the better choose Sony Cinealta or Optar's?

I would love to hear you guys imput

Thanks in advance guys

Kassim

If you can find them, I would go for the old Sony F3 PL lens set. They cut scaringly well with Ultraprimes, and they're as cheap as PL glass gets.

Awesome!!! thanks mlysbakken. Do you have footage I can peek at of those Sony PL's cutting with Ultraprimes?

I actually just read online that the S16 lenses image circle is actually smaller than S35 lenses so Im almost quite sure now that its not just about the focal length. So I'm thinking maybe the S16 Optars wouldn't work with F35 no matter what the focal length was. Maybe the Sony Cinealta's are my best bet

Wide angles are Ultraprimes (18mm and 25mm), tele shots are Sony

Oh wow this looks awesome!!! so if you only could use one lens as a walk around ...which focal length from the Sony Cinealta line up would it be? Im only asking because I can only buy one lens for now...I'll be buying 2 more in January but I want to make sure whatever focal length I get it will be able to cover me temporarily

Thanks! I'm a sucker for wide angles, so I would definitely go for something in the wide end. In the old Sony line-up, 35mm was the widest, but in the new one, you can go quite a bit wider. I'd say: 35mm if you can find the old set, 25mm if you go for the new one. But that's just my personal preference.

Absolutely, positively, definitely, do not try and use a S16 lens on the F35.

It definitely won't cover the image circle and worse, the protrusions on some S16 lenses can be pretty severe and they can damage the F35's glass filter.

Most lenses only cover a few mm more than their designed imaging circle, no more.

I would second the above recommendations of the Sony F3 kit. Not bad lenses image-wise, get a Duclos remounted 11-16 or the GL Optics 18-35 for a wide angle and you're sorted

Gl optics has rehoused zeiss superspeeds for pretty cheap toom mac has the sony lenses he loves.

Hey thanks JM!!! I'll for sure keep away from the S16 glass with S35 then

Awesome...so if Im doing my math right...Wouldn't a 25mm be more like a 35/38mm with the F35 ???

In photo terms, yeah, but you dont treat super35 as a crop factor in the movie world. A 25 mm is a 25 mm

I would second the GL Optics 18-35. Add that to a Sony F3 kit, you've got a set of good PL lenses for under $10,000 - bargain.

you don't think a 25mm would be too wide for an all around walk around?

I don't think you'll be using the F35 as a "walk-around" camera. As Tiny Elvis would say, That sucker's big! That said, if you do plan to use it while walking around, a wide angle lens is the way to go. A telephoto would really highlight the shakiness of handheld camera work and should be used on sticks.

Ultimate lens for run 'n gun would be an Optimo 16-42, however that is not a small combo... nothing is when attached to the F35!
