Opening Title Sequence for my Short Film

Sorry, my internet is really slow, but I can tell you from the first 20 seconds that it's way too long. For a 35 minute "short" I wouldn't even have a title sequence since you're short is already a medium. Making the audience sit through 2.5 minutes of titles BEFORE 35 minutes of short is gonna make their eyes glaze over. This isn't a festival project, right?

My internet server is running slow, probably cause of the blizzard, so try it again tomorrow and it may be faster.

This is a festival project; I think I'm going to leave it in; The audience isn't really sitting through titles, it actually is relevant footage cause it shows clips how the protagonist used to be right before we go to the current time period.

I dont mind title sequences at all. The one thing that I did not like to much is that your titles have a ghoslty/ splashy effect if that is even a term :)
Maybe a little more simple . The edit and colorgrade looks good to me ...so I'd keep it. Try to cut it down a bit not to much.

Just my 2 million dollars !

I really like your camera work and grade, it ties together nicely into a retro feel. I think your pacing isn't necessarily consistent - some clips felt a lot longer than the ones right before or after them, so I would encourage you to try making them a similar length to get a better flow. Also consider dropping maybe one in four or one in five clips to shorten it a little. I think you can convey the characters in slightly less time, either by shortening some clips or removing them entirely. Try it and see if you like it better, you can always go back (save a copy of how it is now).

I've hesitated to comment...but here goes...please don't take it the wrong, these are just MY opinions.
1. Still WAY too long. I wouldn't make it through the credits, or would fast-forward to get into the film.
2. Pace is too slow. For some reason I expected to see something like the opening to "Friends", but this didn't go there.
3. There's like 7 seconds of music before we see any image? Get right into it...

The second edit is best so far!

Tweak, tweak & re-tweak... then post again....

35 minutes is an odd length for a short--it's far too long to screen at most festivals (unless you have serious funding/backing), and it's not long enough to make it into a feature. Think about the story you want to tell and see if you can shrink back to at least under 20 minutes.

From experience, a few years ago, I made a 28 minute short. Believe me: nobody wanted to watch it. I watch it now and cringe with all the dead space and unnecessary stuff I included.

In regards to the titles I jut watched, I don't really think you need it. It doesn't really "say" anything important, and it's not like anybody is going to know who the actors and crew of your movie is, so name recognition is a mute point.

Seriously--have a five second title card and get to the point.

+ 1 what Zaza said

Hey Denialorcoped,

Looks better. I think I know what your doing with the blank 7 seconds you would need to fade the audio in a little slower for that effect to work or just forget about it.
Try this: start the edit where the vocals begin and challlenge your self to show the best shots in 60 secs or less !

Here's an example of a shot I would shorten 0:22 to 0:26 cut it to 0:24 to 0:26.
Now looking at it again and again I would get rid the shot starting at 0:47 to 0:53 It's not to clear what's happening. You got a title and waterdroplets in the way of your composition.

These are things you can look out when going through your edit for the Nth time to make it snappy and saucey :)

Post back !

One thing I should have mentioned; this is not the first thing in the film. The movie will begin with a 3-4 min. cartoon actually; at the end of the cartoon a character puts a vhs tape in a vcr, and then the live-action title sequence begins. The 7 seconds at the beginning with have stuff I haven't done yet.

The general feeling is that people still think it's too long at 1 min. 30 sec. I will do one more version and try to get it under 60 seconds. Thanks for all the feedback!

First off, thanks everyone for the feedback. I am a one-man crew, so this forum is all I have to get 2nd opinions.

The shortest I could make this was 1 and 15 seconds. I decided to just eliminate the titles completely, but again this is relevant footage so I'm going to keep this at the beginning of the film. It shows that the characters were once happy b4 the conflict occurs.

The 6 secs. of black at the beginning will have the title of the film.
