Hey Mitch,

Josh Becker wrote in another thread: "I think with the FS7, it (7Q+) will provide a smaller/lighter option for HDMI UHD capture (doesn't require the giant XDCA unit) if I'm on a gimbal or something."

My question is, on the FS7, do you need the XDCA back unit to record Pro-Res to the 7Q? I'm assuming that what makes the 7Q 4K2HD and 4KUHD so clean is that CD did a great job debayering from the 4K RAW? Can we expect similar results in quality through the HDMI out on the FS7? to the 7Q?

Custom frame guides! Coming from a guy who is often shooting for a video board with a 2.51:1 ratio, this is a really nice addition.

Great work all around, CD. Looking forward to updating my unit.

Thanks for the update Mitch.

I have a question if you may : with the new 1.10 fimware on the FS7 enabling S-Log2, can we stay in FS7 RAW or is it just compatible with S-Log3 ?

If that not such the case, maybe switching for FS700 RAW will simply do the trick ?

Thanks for your answer,
Stephane.

Curious, any improvements to the noise in rec709 in 4k-uhd ProRes? I find it to be really noisy on a lot of my footage

Sounds great, the fw updates are coming more regularly, the gear is getting better! Not forced to shoot RAW anymore when full 4K is needed! Frame guides sound awesome as well.

Edit: and oled calibration.. Thank you, very needed feature.

The Odyssey7Q can only receive 4K via the SDI output. The 7Q+ can receive 4K video via SDI or HDMI.

The FS7 can output 4K video via HDMI. It's SDI outputs are limited to HD. With the accessory back it can output 4K RAW, which either the 7Q or the 7Q+ can then turn into video and record as ProRes.

We really like the work we do turning RAW into video. But Sony can certainly do a fine job of it, especially if you get it in a Log mode. If all you want is HD video, then the FS7 can send that out over HDMI or SDI and the 7Q can receive it either way. I would suggest ALWAYS going SDI if you can. I'll leave it up to others to comparison test between our deBayer and Sony's, but we're quite happy with ours.

The new custom frame guides are crazy powerful. Create up to four of them and you can make each in a different color. Combine with one of the presets and you have far more possible combinations than any other solution. Make one a center mark if you want -- you can layer five frames at once!

We will add S-Log2 to the FS7 selections soon. I have not tried "lying" to the Odyssey as you describe, but it might work. We chose to separate the FS7 and the FS700 in the camera selection menu because (A) we didn't want to confuse owners who were setting up the camera quickly and (B) Sony outputs the signal in such a way that there's really no way for the Odyssey to know the difference without being told.

Vectoscope almost made this release. It should be available soon. Not sure on the others but we would like to try to wrap up features sooner rather than later. Seeing 2017 there kinda scares me!
