C300: Onscreen display output to Zacuto EVF Pro through HDMI

I've done this before, and have been able to toggle the display info off and on in the Zacuto EVF using the display button on the side of the C300.

I know its there somewhere but can't find the right menu in the camera to enable this function. Also, is there any way to have the red record light enabled in the EVF, even if the other info is off (like in an EFP camera)?

Ok maybe I'm going mad, but I was sure that I'd had normal vf display info going through the HDMI cable into the Zacuto EVF. Maybe something has changed, maybe I'm dreaming?

Bluedisk,

Make sure that under the "Video Setup" menu, HD Onscreen Display is "On" - third option down.

This will then cycle when you hit the Display button.

To see just the Record indicator in the EVF, you would need to go into the Custom Display settings in the VF/LCD Setup menu and turn off everything other than that.

Nice one thanks Macaholic, but when I do this it also outputs to the Atomos Blade through the SDi connection. I cant seem to find a way to have it output only through HDMI and not SDi.
When I see this info on the Blade it embeds it and records over the image...grrr.

Bluedisk,

Yep, that is true and unfortunately an annoyance.

Your only option would be to monitor from the Zacuto in SD, and turn off HD Characters Out (To Atomos) and on SD Characters Out (To Zacuto).

However, that would mean you'd need to get this HDMI to RCA Cable, and a BNC to RCA Adapter and then plug into your Sync Out terminal and set it to Composite.

And I'm not 100% that would work..but for $20 it might be worth a shot if you don't mind monitoring in SD..can't remember the last time I did that..haha

Thanks Macaholic, the idea of shooting in HD but operating using a SD image through the EVF seems wildly counterproductive. All I want to know is that I'm actually recording without taking my eye out of the EVF, like I've done since forever...
