OnLocation: HVX200 Export Issue

I am having serious issues with Adobe OnLocation and my HVX200. I am using OnLocation with my CS4 Master Suite. OnLocation finds my HVX200 and I can capture record footage into OnLocation but I cannot get it out!

After I export the footage to my desktop there is a .mov and .xml file but when I try to view the footage it says "The file is not a movie"! This has been going on for a few weeks now and when I go to the "Recording File Format" in the drop down menu all the options are grayed out including AVI and Quicktime.

I need to be able to capture DVCPRO HD from my HVX200 and then have access to these files immediately after. I have been forced to use Quicktime Pro to capture since I have not got OnLocation to work but Quicktime Pro does not capture DVCPRO HD. I have made a short video showing the problem I am having inside OnLocation.

Can somebody please help a brother out!

I am assuming you are on a Mac?

Don't you need the DVCProHD codecs which are installed by FCP, to use onLocation?

Not certain of that, but that's the only way to view DVCProHD footage and I assume capture it.

My understand is that once you start the program, you set up a project and designate where the project resides.

Then you capture the footage, and the clips you captured are in that folder.

Did you do that? And are that clips in that project folder?

I REINSTALLED OnLocation and now it works!!! One issue still...

I can use my main camera (HVX200-DVCPRO HD with OnLocation without out an issue. The recorded qicktime files are available in a .mov format. However, when I use one of my Sony HDV cameras the footage IS NOT available. I can play the HDV footage back inside of OnLocation but not outside the program. It

Instead of a .mov format it saves the HDV footage as .m2k footage??!! How do I play this .m2k footage outside OnLocation? How do import the .m2k footage into FCP? If I try to export the HDV footage from OnLocation it will only export in a .xml format. Am I missing something here? Do HDV cameras not work with OnLocation?

Another quick question, when I shoot with my HVX200 is OnLocation recording the true DVCPRO HD or another compression? How can I check this?

OnLocation doesn't do any compression of its own. It captures the signal as it streams out of the camcorder. So for an HVX200, that means you're getting bit-for-bit identical footage as to what would have been recorded on the P2 cards, using the same DVCPRO-HD compression.

For HDV cameras, you're getting the same digital bitstream that would have been recorded on an HDV tape.
