One Man's Goal - HVX, SGBlade

The RR2 definitely has a more prominent bokeh and texture. I think the RR1 tends to look more like a standard Letus adapter. It doesn't look as film-like to me.

Yeah, I had to learn the hard way about being careful with stopping down. It's helpful to use a monitor.

Were you the DP on this? I think it's interesting that you guys chose to go with such shallow depth of field for so many shots: all the exteriors, the bar, etc. I was left wanting to see a bit more of the scene. I think the set that you built worked great. Those walls really do look filthy!

Yeah I dp'ed But I didn't do the color correction. I think the cc'er saturated the reds a bit too much and then desaturated the bar scene so everyone looked like zombies. Lol.

I think I'll order a rr1. I find #2 just a bit noisy with a very abundant bokeh. I'm not complaining but I think audiences are getting used to seeing crystal clear images. More and more tv shows are being shot on digital. Just heard the finale of house was shot on the 5d. Crazy huh?

We shot the majority of it with the 24mm lens and a lot was handheld. We went as wide on the dof as I could comfortably go. I felt myself wanting wider and wider but was limited on light and lenses. The bar was a bit shallower due to the logo's on the walls. I wanted to blur them out as much as possible. Def will be buying an HD monitor for my next film. Too much of a risk without one.

Yeah, I agree the rr2 is good only if you want that intentionally grainy film look. It's good for creating an organic aesthetic. The clean digital look is definitely popular right now. I actually have a rr1 but have never tried it out. I think I might give it a whirl soon and see if the images are still pleasing. I could definitely stand less grain sometimes.

We got dubbed "Best short on the Block" at the Action on Film Festival in Pasadena... And I missed it!!!! Booooo!. Anyways proud of the film. It's now up on imdb too.

We sent this film off to a few festivals and competitions. I was pretty bummed because it only screened at 2 of 8. I just recieved this email from on of the Foundation Directors and it made me really happy. The Email is address to Russell, my Producer.

Hi, Russell. This is the second time we've recognized your work, which I didn't realize until e-mailing you, which triggered your email address (in Outlook) from last year. So clearly your work stands on its own without having an "alumni shoe-in." So, well done, man! I cannot tell you how much we loved ONE MAN'S GOAL. Such a great movie with such a great payoff. Without exaggeration, while watching it for the first time, it was completely disarming. With its many 'movie magic moments' we collectively had the same "that's so cool" visceral reactions as one does when watching say, badass moments in a Scorsese or Tarantino movie (but not to suggest you were ripping anyone off ... what you did was all your own ... it just gave us that same amped feeling, which we totally appreciate). So really .... Just brilliant work! So, if you send more to us in the future, please let me know its coming because it is completely random who gets what - and I just happened to get your submissions this year and last year - and I'd hate for your work to be missed, which is sometimes what happens with the very different backgrounds and sensibilities of our many judges and pre-screeners. We get so many submissions and unless they make it to the semi-finals, I don't see ever them, and we wouldn't want that. Again, great work. Hope to see more from you in the future. Best,
Mike

i know its too late but you used too low shutter speed or had some problem when exporting to proper framerate cause i feel some ghosting which is present when shutter 1/30 is used or 23.976 is exported as 24.

I think we used 180d shutter. There might be some exporting ghosts. How can you tell or where do you see it?
