One man audio - solution for a DSLR needed

After I first wanted to buy me a marantz 661, I've noticed that it is almost impossible for me to find someone to do the audio, but me. I've seen that some guys mount a Tascam DR-100 to their DSLR with brackets and the rode on top of it as well. Yes the Marantz 661 has nicer preamps, but it's also damn heavy.

What is your opinion about one-man-audio-solutions? Should I go for the Tascam?

Check Zoom H1 .... it's much small, if you could find a small arm mount it on top of your DSLR.... it would be nice.

I was checking an H1 out this week. I can't believe how small and light it is. Are they really that good?
At the same time I was surprised how much bigger the H4N was than I thought.
If a one man band shoot I would go for the H1 if it can pull off good enough audio.

You do realize that this limits you to pretty traditionally bad indi audio. If your shooting docs you can get away with it and if your just shooting learning exercises then don't worry about it. BUT the quality of the recorder isn't going to factor in much if your using a camera mounted mic. If your doing one of the two above and your DSLR has a way to defeat the AGC then I would just go straight into the camera and save the cost of the recorder.

I do post 99% of the time so maybe one of the production mixer gurus can give you a secret tip on how to make a camera mounted mic sound good but I have never seen or heard of a way. So if your shooting at say the festival circuit or better then I think you need to figure out how to get a sound person.
