"On The Lot" tonight

The only reason I will watch is to keep this, my favorite thread, alive. (DVR of course)

I honestly forgot about this show in the span of six days.

Well, I was sidetracked by Sunday's awesome episode of Entourage.....and actually working on my own stuff. Which kind of brings me back full circle to the original posts in this thread.

this thread is dead just like the show.. ahahahah

there was an episode this monday? where? hahahahaha ..... WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Wow. How did I miss this thread? I've been watching this show and I have to agree that it's pretty bad. Stepping away from the films for a moment, the show production really is horrible. Seems more like some of the smaller, "less-together" film festivals I've attended than a network t.v. show.

Ok. Back to the films/filmmakers...

My issue with the harsh criticism here is that even the worse films on this show are as good or better than most things posted on this and other productions sites. Everyone thinks they can be a director, all they need is the money or the break, etc. If you have true talent, you can create an impressive short without money or a break.

Are you poo pooing kidding me? I'd put AT LEAST HALF the films from SpyFest up against anything I've seen from On the Lot. Wouldn't be a fair fight, really.

Take ten of the most established directors in the world, give them 5 days, a dvx, no money, and a 10 man crew to make their film and I'd bet most of them would fare pretty poorly. Good stories and good films take time. With these time constraints, these guys are doing pretty damn good.

I'll take Scorsese, 10 guys and DVX and I'll even give you back a day. You can take your pick from the OTL gang. What do you say?

And who ever said these guys have "no money"? These POOR, STARVING, HOMELESS, On the Lot filmmakers with their lowly DVX's, and only ten MEASLY guys to help them out, and, wait... only a piddly FIVE days to make the film.

Please. Spare me.

If you compare these films to your regular, festival type short films, this stuff is pretty bad. If you compare them to your run-of-the-mill YouTube premiers, they're probably pretty good.

Would I give any of these knuckleheads a million bucks to make a movie? I'd say probably not. I have hope for Zach, though. Even though he's a quasi-vfx nerd, he's the most commerically viable contestant and I am actually ENTERTAINED by his stuff.

Martin "Marty" Martin the Martian... What a fat-head! Learn how to take some criticism. Frankel: "... and some of the dialogue was even laughable." I could hear AND smell the fresh and forthy dump in Marty's pants through the television.

Carrie Fisher? What the hell's in her mouth? She speaks like she's a drunk boxer who forgot to take her mouthpiece out!

Wes Craven is the guest judge tonight. Scary.

Happy viewing everybody! Shamelessly, I know I will be!!!

I totally agree with ya there John.

It's ridiculous the stuff we've been seeing on that show.

And yet... I'm strangely attracted to this show.

Actually, all of us fledgling filmmakers at DVXuser should feel extremely comforted in knowing that those On the Lot people are the COMPETITION to get development deals out there. Now go out and make some films, people!

jessica's film was awful! wow. what the hell was that. i'm speechless.

haha yea that was awful, and her film in last rounds didnt make any sense. id like to see the film she made that got her in the contest (though i bet she worked in it but didnt actually do much)

and if you have 18 people make a film, name the top 3, then break up the 15 contestants left, why the hell would you put the top 3 all in the same group. since they were the 3 best they should have been seperated into the 3 different groups. this show is retarded and so is everyone on it except for jason, zach and the guy who did the fart 1 minute short.

and yea i forgot who went off on someone for saying these people have no budgets, if they all went to $150,000 film schools then they are RICH

Yeah jessica's film was like kenny's without any style. I can't imagine that she is representing NYU too well with these below average films. If she didn't mention that the film was from the tree's perspective, then I would have no idea what that was about. The only time I have seen trees be relevant in a film is The Two Towers.

I can't imagine anyone winning this thing except for Zack. His are the best and the judges are kissing his butt like he is the next spielberg.

was anyone else wondering what the judges didn't get about jason's film?

Throw something somewhat abstract at Carrie Fisher and she suddely she acts like her mouth is full of marbles. I liked it, but rather having make a choice like the judges wanted, I would have rather played more with the tension of the drug dealers coming after him.

The only one I liked was the blood one... I thought that was well done. Jessica's was SO BAD.
The look of Blood Born was horrible. It looked like it was done with available light and was so blown out as to be almost unwatchable. And yes, Jessica should have stayed home tonight.

i'm calling it now. this show needs some sort of scandal to boost viewer ratings. within the next two weeks it will be revealed that she got on the show by sleeping with one of the producers.

I can't believe nobody from this site is there... Look at the Spyfest movies, than look at the On The Lot movies... I don't understand...

to me it seems like some of these people were picked because of their personalities and the conflicts they would create while trying to get along with the other directors. problem is that they've changed the format of show. so we're stuck with a handful of people who have no business being here.

i thought the Blood short was the best. I didn't really think Zach's was that great but it definately wasnt bad. i think he's playing his cards right with the judges and giving them something different.

i just wish they would lose the hokey comedy shorts. if comedy isnt your thing then leave it alone, lol.
