On Set Tip - Using Firestore & P2 together

This might be something everyone is already doing... but its something I just realized this past week.

The majority of the time I shoot with the Firestore simply because I only own one P2 card, and I don't have the means to dump footage in the field if I'm shooting by myself (meaning with my own gear - not on someone elses shoot/dime).

The thing that has bothered me the most about the firstore is the clunkiness involved in being able to play clips back. It's just time consuming and generally annoying.

Well, I have a single 8GB P2 card that I got as part of the old rebate with the HVX.
In the past I only used it when I was shooting short amounts of footage - but this weekend I finally realized I could put it to much better use.

Setting the HVX 1394 Control menu setting to "BOTH" the camera will record to both the Firestore and the P2 card simulatneously. So I did that throughout the shoot this weekend. Granted, at the end of the two day we'd shot about 60+ minutes of 1080/24PA footage... WAY more than I could have held on a single 8GB card.

But by recording to both the card and the firestore, I was able to take advantage of the quick response of the P2 card in playing clips back to check them on set. As soon as the card was filled up, I simply wiped it clean in camera...and kept shooting. Shooting this way always kept the last few takes at my fingertips to playback quickly.

Not sure if anyone else will find this helpful - but I know I found it much nicer than shooting with the Firestore alone (especially when doing VFR shooting) - and I figured with so many shooters out there with a single P2 card from the rebates, someone else might find this little workflow tip helpful as well.
