On camera lights!

Looks like I'm going to be getting the Vidled. I wonder if I should get the 8000k, if I am only going to buy one and they are the same price? Anyone using the 8000k?

What up?

I've searched the achives for hours and can't find a good thread about on camera lights for the DVX.

I'm not totally sure what I need to be looking for except that I need a light! hahaha. I'll be using it mostly for shooting break dancing events in clubs where the lighting is never really good enough, also be using it to shoot, mtb bike, bmx, skiing, stuff like that. So something robust would be a plus!!!

What are people using, what do you recommend?

Thanks!
Buck

Here you go. Quite an old thread, but a good discussion. Bought the Vidleds and they've been great, but like the look of the Zylight (www.zylight.com) - if it was cheaper! Extra note, black version of Vidled is worth having, but as it wasn't in the original design (it's a decent quality paint, rather than part of the case material), the finish is showing some signs of wear.

Which vidled light should I buy? I will be using it inside and out and overseas with places that don't have very good indoor lights.

- warmLED-40 3200k
- dayLED-40 5600k
- coolLED-40 8000k

Also, it looks like the best option is to buy the standard light because the batteries have a longer running time and they don't sale any external batteries for the deluxe model that I could see.

Litepanels Rebate

Litepanels Rebate

Vidled looks ok, but the sample they have on their website was not impressive. I've been looking at mini 32 litepanels and i've heard there's a $200 rebate out in the trade magazines. Has anyone seen or heard of this??

I agree but I just gone the cool LED. It is amazing now bright the light is. It looks dope. I can honestly say, this was an amazing deal and vaule for my money.

Get it.

fyi-I called Litepanels a couple of weeks ago and was told that ads were printed prematurely, the rebate would be available sometime in January & posted on their website(as were the lights which are now out of stock). It's for the dv kits, and it's the same version the've been selling, not a new and improved 30% output increase as the ad states, according to the woman I spoke to.

i just put in an order for a vidled at vidled.com the guy who took my order sorry didnt catch his name was so helpful a top rated buying experience cant wait to get my new light.

thanks vidled

Did you get your lights? What do you think? I have been going back and forth between Varizoom and VIDLED. Please let me know what you think of the VIDLED. I just wish there was a place in Los Angeles where I can check them out.

Thanks, Jimmy

I recently reviewed the Varizoom S-2010F LED light kit, you can read about it in the March issue of DV Magazine.

Personally, for on-cam use the Varizoom LED is more useful than the Vidled. Dichroic and diffusion filters are onboard, it has barndoors, the dimmer actually works over the whole range, etc. Not only that, but they offer battery solutions that will work with your spare Panny, Canon, Sony, or JVC batteries. No need for a proprietary batt pack.

I believe it to be a more polished product in general, and once we found the Varizoom we dumped our Vidleds at a loss on ebay. Now I will say this...the Vidled is slightly more powerful, and as such might be more useful as traditional production off-camera litepanels replacement (small fill, kicker, car interiors, etc). But for on-camera use (run-n-gun and event shooters in particular), the Varizoom delivers the goods.
