Honestly I think people are counting Olympus out right now.
I’m limited to what I can say, but they aren’t gone.

I agree that a Bayer sensor must be supersampled, if you want that pristine perfect target resolution. For instance, a 2K Bayer sensor (like in the original Pocket) will not a 2K RGB image make.
But I believe that the ratio is 1.5, and higher ratios do not matter. For instance, the Arri Alexa, recording a raw image at 2880x1620, is precisely 1.5 times 1920x1080. Such a recording, downsampled to 1920x1080, will look sharper than the Pocket.
But if you were to take, say, a Red and film at 3840x2160, and then downsample that to 1920x1080, then it will look no sharper than the Arri.
Apple TV's aerial screensavers have had me enthralled, and I believe they're shot as 3 x 8K plates stitched together by Phil Holland (at least some of them). When I first saw these I couldn't believe what I was seeing and I couldn't figure out why it looked so damn good on my 1920 TV. and so....yeah you shoot them 3 8K cameras to make a very high resolution image and they look magnificent streamed to 1920...funny that...

I still say the entire photo-video industry is in an untenable position, with more dominoes to fall. Olympic isn't even the beginning of the avalanche.
Photography is dead aside from the tiny market that is professional photographers.
No one buys cameras anymore. Families don’t really buy cameras anymore and that volume is just gone.

That's the point. The industry itself is deep sh!t, i.e., a survival mode.I didnt read past the "nikon should exit" but it's hard for me to comprehend how a duopoly could be good for the industry.
Two of the biggest hybrid producers Panasonic and Olympus don't have a reliable auto focus. Up until recently, most sub-$1000 cameras - such as EOS RP or any of the Canon sub-5D series- didn't even even 4K. Olympus was mentioned for its codec. Why do you think that is? Well, it isn't because the engineers are incapable. It is because the features are set not in the marketing department but in the boardroom. In fact, in several of them.I'm going to make a prediction - the GH6 will shoot 8K continuously. Why? Because smartphones can do it ("so why am I paying you so much money to shoot worse video than my phone?")
And the F104 Star Fighter, and the U2. Mr. Kelly Johnson. But also I have a theory, that has so far been confirmed by evidence, that anything noteworthy that has come out of a corporation can always be traced back to a specific individual within that corporation. For example, the SR-71 Blackbird.
The result is that most corporations don't cultivate design. When they do, it is mediocre, designed by committee. Or, as you have witnessed with the cripplecams, they are designs that are deliberately twisted, abhorrent, and unnatural --- because they are designed selfishly, to preserve the profit margin, instead of to help a customer.

There are exceptions, the most famous being Steve Jobs. Say what you will about him, he was a weird man, at least among corporate execs.

This is why I think BMD are so interesting. They are totally driven by Grant and he just is not interested in traditional coporate culture and he is interested in design.
I mean at least they are not afraid to do things outside the norm and they never ever stratify their products with artificial limitations. Their industrial design has always been unique.
You may not always agree with the taste and choices that are essentially made by one person, but at least it’s done with intention.
