Olympus has had money troubles since the Plaza Accord in 1985. The halved dollar cut into their income, because they relied so heavily on exports. Desperate, they turned to risky moneymaking schemes well outside their area of expertise. This went okay until 1991, when the bubble burst. The 90s came to be known as Japan's Lost Decade.
Olympus swept its losses under the rug, but they were discovered in 2011. "By 2012 the scandal had developed into one of the biggest and longest-lived loss-concealing financial scandals in the history of corporate Japan; it had wiped 75–80% off the company's stock market valuation, led to the resignation of much of the board, investigations across Japan, the UK and US, the arrest of 11 past or present Japanese directors, senior managers, auditors and bankers of Olympus for alleged criminal activities or cover-up . . ." --- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympus_scandal

Yet here it is.
When Tony Northrup shot the 16 image pixel shift on A7RIV, he said he noticed the difference from 61 MPX in a single exposure to the 240 MPX combined.
Sony, naturally, crippled the camera
Further footage will show its aims. Canon R5 is 8K, which pretty much no one was asking for. Yet here it is.I'm not sure what that proves, except that companies make needless features, which I already agree with.
... Now that is interesting! I would be interested to know more, because I cannot see how it could be under a normal angle of view. If it wasn't a blind test --- if Tony knew when he was looking at the 61 MPX and when he was looking at the 240 MPX --- then it could all be psychological...
Have you ever owned or spent considerable amount of time watching images on a DLP front projector with a rotating color wheel?<broken-record> ...
Well, according to some, BMD 12K is way beyond the needed resolution. Yet here it is.
PS. When Tony Northrup shot the 16 image pixel shift on A7RIV, he said he noticed the difference from 61 MPX in a single exposure to the 240 MPX combined. Sony, naturally, crippled the camera by not offering the 4X producing 120 MPX.
This has come up in a few places.
I think it's a bogus argument. We've long been supersampling for smaller / inferior screens and you can almost always tell a difference.
Apple TV's aerial screensavers have had me enthralled, and I believe they're shot as 3 x 8K plates stitched together by Phil Holland (at least some of them). When I first saw these I couldn't believe what I was seeing and I couldn't figure out why it looked so damn good on my 1920 TV. and so....yeah you shoot them 3 8K cameras to make a very high resolution image and they look magnificent streamed to 1920...funny that...
