Olympus 12-40

What do you guys think of this one?

According to Ming Thein this lens' snap focus feature enables it to rack focus back and forth between two prefocused points.
This feature (in addition to the fact that it might well turn out to be sharper than the 12-35) has me seriously thinking about getting it. MT also claims it is more or less parfocal (like the 12-35). (But obviously it won't be stabilized on Panasonic bodies.)
I also believe it will be large enough to mount a follow focus on.

Another question:
Is there any way to select focus points on the AF100?

There's the push to focus button, but that only focuses on the center of the frame, I believe. And the MF on the 12-35 I can't get used to..

Any insights are appreciated :bath:

The panasonic remote circuitry has a provision for this - but not sure how it works on a non-fixed lens camera like the Af100 (which I believe uses all the same focus and zoom hardware from as far back as the DVX100 days? Barry would know better). If there's a way to use a focus/iris controller (like the manfrotto and others) with an AF100, you should be able to dial in fore and aft focus range. It's pretty handy.

Hi, not sure what you mean about focussing in the centre. Using the joystick to set the function square on any point in the frame (press twice to make it yellow) then pressing the focus button will focus on that point/area. I also use the 12-35mm f2.8 and it works perfectly. The same procedure also of course works in auto focus assuming you are using a fully coupled adaptor. Hope this is some help.

EDIT: So using this you could have two focus points: the first one is a manual focus then press the focus button to refocus the camera on the yellow square area.
