Boyle played a great game until he slew-footed Semen. Classless hot head move. It's all fair and good to go after a guy for a late hard, clean hit, but slew-foot him from behind? That's just plain wrong and dirty.
 
Like the hit on Staal? Putting him head first into the boards when he hadn't even touched the puck.

Lots of dirty plays all over the ice last night. Mostly from Russia.
Payback's a *****. :)
 
I don't like that either. But it's more understandable in the midst of play. Not after the whistle with forethought. (I've even done my fair share of dirty play. During play not after.) Which do you think would get you suspended in the NHL?

The cheap hit on Stall would be more likely to get you suspended in the NHL. He never touched the puck and could have been seriously hurt, he was flying.

In the NHL Boyle would have simply dropped the gloves after Semen kept yapping at him and solved it that way.

Semen was looking to even up the call that was just made against him and he got his wish. The hit on Stall went unpunished.

Slew-footing someone for any reason in any circumstance is just lowdown. Especially from behind after the whistle. There's no defense for it in my eyes.

In any case, Canada finally looked like a team. And with all that talent it's just awesome to watch. I'm sure we agree on this. The awesomness I mean.

They were side by side jawing at one another and trust me, Semin got what he wanted. Otherwise it was a PP for Canada late in the game.

I thought Canada played great as a team vs the U.S. as well, they just ran into a hot goalie and Brodeur handed them 2 gift goals. Even Brian Burke siad the same thing.
"I thought that, except for the goaltending position, we didn't deserve to win that game," Burke said. "We got outchanced, 2-1. Our goaltender (Ryan Miller) stole us the game. ... That's not going to do it in the next round. We know that."

I agree though, Russia was dominated in a way that I've rarely seen last night. They were out of it in the first period. I never really counted them out but you know what I mean. No one expected that outcome.

As a Canadian stuck right in the middle of the "state of hockey", I am having a blast watching all of this. Although I admit I was nervous going into last nights game. Between the woman's game today, and the men's semis I am having trouble keeping track of my wagers.
I really hope the NHL keeps shutting down for the Olympics. It is very good for the sport over all to see this quality of hockey.
 
Horse I am taking a lot of abuse around here. This will make life easier Friday. Lots of hockey smack last few days.
 
I don't understand it. Minnesota is basically South Canada. I've always had a healthy respect for Canucks.

We Canadians also respect our skinny bacon loving, Upper Mexican, Gretsky-napping, puck-stop neighbors to the South. We'll be there on Sunday. Hope you boys show. Bring it!

It was crazy!

Canada put so much pressure on the fore-check that they couldn't even manage to pull their goalie at the end. Save for maybe the last 10 seconds, no shots.

I think they are the first team sport to win three straight Olympic gold medals since the 20's.

Hopefully the men can follow suit.

i recently saw a poll of americans and hockey was listed as the 6th favorite sport here, with only 4% of people saying they liked hockey the best.

i assume hockey is the favorite sport in canada. what other sports are popular there?
 
Hockey is definitely #1 but we like all sorts of sports. Baseball, Football, Basketball, Curling, etc...
Lots of soccer fans as well.

PS - The IOC wasn't happy with the girls after the other medal winning teams had left the ice, well after the ceremony.

Sexist maybe? They had no qualms with the Canadian who won Gold in the Men's Skeleton.
He paraded around drinking beer from a pitcher and signed girls partially exposed breasts. :)

Didn't hear boo about that.
I say let them enjoy the moment.
