Okay so I can get a DVX100 for about $700(aus) through a private seller, as of right now I'm not sure what format it records in, but I'm guessing it's whatever format they use in Europe, I need to know if I can alter the format in post-production and what other features I need to look at that may mean I cannot use the camera to its full potential because it was manufactured in a different country.

Thats what I thought, but the guy said he would send it to me to try for 30 days, so I can make my decision off of that. However I'm still not totally convinced.

Why don't you save yourself the trouble, and try to find a reliable, less sketchy deal. You may have to pay a steeper price, but the extra money is well worth the peace of mind and ntsc format.

Theres also another camera for around the same price, but it is ntsc how easy is it to change the format in post production, what sort of software do I need?

Ask the private seller for the panasonic model number (listed under the viewfinder above the serial number)
It'll start with "AG-" that'll tell you what format it records in :)
If you can go for a PAL model, it'll be less hassle for you in the long run (unless you are shooting footage for the USA primarily)

I know for sure that his camera is in NTSC format, and seeing as it's relatively cheap, I want to know how easy it will be to convert the video to pal through editing, can anyone help?
