OK, I'm so lost, it's ridiculous.

I have my new HPX170 in hand, now what?

I am so lost on what that P2 Driver is, which updates online (if any) I have to perform. And I've got a Power Mac G5 (2006) running FCP Studio 1 (About to upgrade to Studio 2) but it looks like the P2CMS program only runs on Intel based MAcs, so am I outta luck there?

Basically, I want to know what all I have to do so when I've shot my footage I can just get it into the NLE. I thought you could just plug your camera in to your computer and drag and drop the files from the P2 card to a Hard Drive.

Any help or suggestions?

Thank You!

The P2 drivers should come on the support software disc that came with your camera. If you don't have that, I know they're also on the Panasonic website somewhere as well. Then you should be able to just drag and drop the files to you computer.

Do I have to wait until I install my FCPS2 before I can install that driver. And what does the driver do? I got the installed DVD with my camera but I am confused on what it's for.

No, you don't need to install any NLE's first, the driver is just so that your computer will recognize the camera when you plug it in, without the driver, your camera (or P2 reader) is invisible to your computer.

you do not need any P2 drivers if you use firewire. set the camera to 1394 DEVICE mode, turn it off, connect cable, turn on camera, go to PC mode (i.e., switch ti MCR mode, then hold button down for 3+secs). You will then see the screen switch from disconnect to connect and the P2 card will mount in the Finder as device NO NAME. now drag your files

Be sure you write proterct the card before, just in case.

You caould also start FCS after this, and do a Log & Transfer directly over firewire.

I found that using firewire was much slower than using usb. The usb was almost instantaneous, and the firewire went quite slow. I may have been doing it wrong, but I don't think I was. I just found that the usb method worked much better.
