OIS with Adapters // Flip // AVCHD

Hi Guys,
I'm wondering if the Optical Image Stabilization on the A1 holds up with a Wide Angle Lens Adapter attached and also with a 35mm Adapter (like the Brevis).

Also, any solutions on the A1 for flipping the image so that it's "right" with 35mm Adapters?

Last, any murmurs about an A1 follow-up that would record AVCHD (h.264)? Isn't HDV already dead?

Many thanks for your wisdom,
Peter

OIS should always be disabled when using a 35mm adapter.

Various companies are introducing flip elements for their adapters; right now the Letus35 Flip Enhanced offers right-side-up viewing/recording.

HDV will be here as long as people continue to buy it. AVC-HD is intended by the manufacturers to be the successor to HDV, but as of yet no manufacturer has introduced an XHA1-class or better AVC-HD camera; only little tiny pocketcams have been introduced as yet. Canon is a member of the AVC-HD group and has introduced their first AVC-HD cameras, but they're based off of the HV20 model, not the XH series.

I hope RedRock is considering adding some sort of flip option to the M2. It would be so nice.

Is there no way the A1 could be programmed with an LCD flip via a firmware upgrade of some kind?

Lastly, should OIS be on or off when using the Steadicam Merlin?

Redrock demonstrated a flip module at NAB.

No idea whether Canon can enable flipping in a firmware update.

I would say OIS should definitely be off when using a steadicam type of device, but Canon's OIS is usually very good so it's probably less of a worry.

When you are just learning how to use the Merlin, I would recommend engaging the OIS and turning it off when you feel you have gotten the hang of it (which will take much practice). Canon's OIS is extremely sophisticated so it doesn't introduce such jarring shifts as I've seen in other cameras or older Canons.
