Effects work done in Maya and After Effects. Tracking in boujou...for you Maya and cg artists, if you are curious about the details, the petals were particles affected by newton fields and instanced with geometry, the robot was modeled and rigged and lit with image based lighting and final gathering, the fireball stuff was geometry with ramps attached to incandescence...its not looking as great as it could be, but im still learning the ropes of visual fx...

if you want to see the first scene of the film (the one I posted up a year ago), its here:

I dont have time right now to check out the footage, but those grabs are killer! How do you get such great colors? Goes to show that even my CC skills are poor.

thanks! i didnt do anything special with the colors, I just increased brightness and contrast, and also modified the color curves to get overexposed areas into more of the same range...i think thats the problem with DV...its compression really limits the dynamic range, but if you can frame your shots accordingly, i think that helps a lot

Someone's a Fullmetal Alchemist fan. =P

Cool trailer. I love that song, by the way, and that series.

Wait.. is that Asian Kung-Fu Generation from Naruto or FMA?

ANd are you a Tetsuya Nomura fan as well? I noticed the high-kick toward the end of the trailer was similar to Reno's high kick dealt to one of Kadaj's gang in Advent Children. (The part where they're fighting in the street.)

hehe, mark, I will try to finish up Bullet of Life by June...I hope!

Kholi, yep, FMA Asian Kung-fu generation, FMA is awesome, so is Cowboy Bebop!!

Totally Off-topic:

Eureka Seven is finally airing on Adult.Swim-- You should check it out. I just finished the series and it ranks with FMA to me.

You probably answered this: What program did you use for the special effects?

I use Maya 7 and Boujou for tracking, compositing and additional effects work done in After Fx

I just started watching Bleach, cool stuff so far

Wow, I'm jealous. I want to learn how to use Maya for effects. =(

I really want to get into particle effects similar to what you see in Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy cut scenes. The flowy-stuff that Square does is awesome.

Good work, man. I really like looking at your website.

You should start a mailing list, y'know? TO let people know when you've updated your site.

Kholi, if you get into MAya, I think you'll find that a lot of the FX square uses isnt that hard, it's just a matter of knowing what to map to an object's incandescence. I've played around with some similar effects, and you'll be amazed at what you can cook up in a matter of minutes!

mark dog, thanks, haha, ive always wanted to do a herbert adventure 2!! when I have some spare time def

hey lee watched musical fighters traielr gain luv it man wanted to ask what was ur lighting setup and what didu to in vegas cause ????i rember u said u had vegas as do i what to u play with in doing ur CC ??? cause ur images l;ook very bright and clean very good.

Watched about everything on your website. Great stuff. Inspires me to get into Maya again, only I still have so much to learn about my camera and using After Effects! You're the man doing all that yourself!

hey thanks again guys

mark dog, i didnt have any artificial lighting, its all natural lighting. All I did in vegas was boost the contrast and color saturation to 1.3. 90% of the qualit of your look will depend on how good your focus and exposure is, so make sure you take some time to frame each shot.

thanks mistercat, bluespidey and slinks!
