OFFICIAL A1 Custom Presets thread

Nantnee,

there is a way to see which preset you have used, but you have to use the photo function. By activating simultaneous recording of a still image and select [ON+CP DATA], for every photo you take there will also be a text file saved with preset info where all custom preset parameters will show up, including the name of the preset. By matching the time the picture is taken with the time a certain clip is recorded you can see the preset info for that clip.

In the PAL manual this is described on page 110 in the chapter "Recording a Still Image on a Memory Card While Recording Movies on a Tape".

Hope this helps!

Regards,

/Bo

Vision03
Attributes: Film emulation, very low gamma with super contrast, super whites, super blacks and super colors.

Keep in mind that this clip is an H264 which has brighter blacks than the original.

Comments:
When i created Vision02 i has so happy to discover the blacks in the A1 that i was happy with it.
Now i'm determined to make only white balance CC (or special fx), but nothing else, because i want my camera to have the right gamma, colorimetry and contrast.
Vision03 is the answer and i'm EXCITED about it.

This could be my best effort in camera setting. Without color correction, this preset sports a great contrast, vivid colors and film gamma and true blacks.

hi every one i am new to this site and i like to know if there is a presets that i can match my HVX200 to my canon XH A1 please help me with this thanks

Here's the final VIVIDRGB. Please disregard any others. Thanks.

Gamma: Cine1
Color Matrix: Normal
Color Gain: 25 (This is about the limit. Adding more color does very little to enhancing chroma and does a lot for introducing unwanted noise)
Color Phase: 0
Knee: Low
Black: Middle
Master Ped: -5
Setup Level: 0
HDF: High (or "mid" if sharpness is set to 0)
H/V Detail: 0
Sharpness: 3 (adjust to taste)
NR1: Off
NR2: Off
Coring: 0
Red Gain: -2
Green Gain: -2
Blue Gain: -3
RG Matrix: 0
RB Matrix: 0
GR Matrix: 0
GB Matrix: 10
BR Matrix: 0
BG Matrix: -13

If you are using a 35mm adapter, dial down the color gain to 0, the sharpness to 0 and the HDF to mid. For some reason, these adapters tend to produce very vibrant color so adjustments are necessary.

Could somebody please, please, please. Print out the "Panalook" and Panalook2" preset in the format above my mac is not letting open the files posted in this section. If you can only post one out, I'd like to at-least have the Panalook (more detail). Thanks very much in advance!!!

Here's Panalook2:

Gamma: Cine2
Color Matrix: Cine2
Color Gain: -4

OH WOW! Can't wait to get back to my camera and try it out :).

careful, if you're using an adapter, get ready to use TONS of light. and i mean TONS. with cine gamma 2, ped at lowest and setup at lowest. Its eats up light.

It doesn't act as you may think
This preset has just darker darks, but the mid to highlight is the same as the native setting. And this is good because Canons have too bright darks, it's ugly to me.

I have to agree with someday. I've been using vision 3 lately and found that the darks are darker and have less noise but as far as lighting goes, it's pretty much the same requirement as other presets. Here's a quick example that I shot using my DIY mid-format adapter. Lens was set to f56, A1 lens set to f2.8, gain set to L (-3db). One Lowell Omni 500W and an overhead 100w light fixture: www.exposureroom.com/dofindoor

It didn't require more than the normal indoor lighting. I could have easily brightened the picture by opening up the mid-format lens another stop.

You guys must have super sensitive canons. It is quite clear how different gamma settings affect the picture differently under lower lighting conditions, and if you need proof i will be happy to get it to you when im home later in the day.

Proof isn't necessary. I'll just be satisfied that I have a "Super Sensitive Canon" :)

But it is interesting if the sensitivity of the A1 varies across production runs of the camera. If that were true then some cameras would work better with 35mm adapters, indoors, than others. Of course, there is probably a better explanation as to why Giovanni and I aren't seeing the same thing you are. Just not sure what that explanation would be.
