office chairs...

Going to be editing a feature soon and am in desperate need of a better chair. I realize this is a ridiculous topic but what do you guys use to keep your legs from going numb and falling off while editing.

i like those kneeling chairs ...it's such a comfortable way to sit...try it out at an office store and you'll see...but with every recommendation, there will be someone that says they suck....gotta try them out.

Find an office store and try everything. What's great for one of us could be torture to sit in, for another.

I'm a huge fan of the mesh back chairs, like the Aeron. I can sit in those things all day. Staples has a couple cheap knockoffs that aren't bad.

It's funny, we have an Aeron chair here and no one wants to sit on it. They're very attractive to look at but kind of over-rated as a place to park one's ass...

All I know is I've used them for years and have never had a spot of back trouble in my life, unlike all my other friends who have chronic back issues. I like the way the mesh supports your back and pushes you forward a bit. Keeps me alert, too. In other chairs, I have a tendency to slouch back, and get drowsy. It doesn't have to be an Aeron, it's just the particular mesh back design I like. Right now I'm using a Staples knockoff that works just fine too.

I think that for some people they're probably the ideal chair. It's just that for the rest of us, the ideal chair is something else (frequently something much less expensive).

My primary association with Aeron chairs is admittedly from back in the NDEI days, watching thousands of $$$ worth of Aerons being rapidly destroyed by 250-300 lb animator asses slamming into them day-in and day-out...

I've always found chairs to be a highly personal - must try on choice - like shoes. With the current economy, I've found huge selections at the used office furniture outlets.

Also interesting that the really fancy executive leather models seem to suck the worst. imho

The fancy executive-type chairs aren't intended for people who do actual work.

It's in the name; they're for executives.

I was also going to say Herman Miller... but at home I have Hon's best task chair (yes, it's old)...

Try a few out and see what you like... even for an "economy" choice... it won't be less then $100... or else this topic is pointless. Decent chairs start at $100. You could get something that's all day comfortable in that price-range... then style and quality (and price) go up from there.
