OK, this is just recent and didnt know where to post this, so the mods can move it somewhere else.

I was just watching tv and they stopped the program to show that an aircraft had crashed on a building in NYC!!! Do any of you know something more ????? :(

Supposed to be a small plane. Don't think it's terror related. I am in the city right now. Kinda scary cause I was just about to go run some errands by that area.

EDIT: Some eyewitness said it was a small plane.

That is scary, Dario. Yikes!

The report is a small fixed wing aircraft (plane) hit a high-rise on NYC east side.

No reason to believe that this is terrorism at the moment.

Some woman interviewed stated that a small plane appeared to be attempting acrobatic moves. Lots of talk on the TV about it.

Didnt know if it was for that either so I put that here. As I said, mods can do whatever they want with it. It was just something really important I wanted to draw some attention to.

2 fatalities.

now they are saying it difficult to discern whether it was a small plane or a helicopter.

also there were at least a couple of apartments involved.

and eithe they are showing old footage or the fire is stilll going.

forget almost everything I said, CNN is contradicting much of it, as this is just breaking (infact deleting those posts to stop misinformation)
- 1 confirmed fatality according to CNN 2 fataliites according to NY1
- probably an accident
- Bell Aire building, York ave and E72nd (residential - not a medical wing, but first 10 floors are medical offices)
- crash took place a little more than an hour ago
- all government agencies say no link to terrorism at this point.'
- fire still going but contained.
- 36th and 37th floor estiimated

I'll see if I can get a mod to move this to cafe.

:crybaby:

On Sep 11 I watched the footage from the live coverage from when it happened and they said accident for a LOOONG time, before finally saying it was terrorist. They even speculated a computer glitch in navigation control caused both jets to crash live on air. I hope they are right and it was not a terrorist attack. *sigh* My prayers are with the families who will find out they lost someone they love tonight.:crybaby:

hmmm, I just looked at the report from CNN indicating the plane had mad an SOS saying they were having fuel problems. I think they might have been trying for the water landing there, but overshot it.

I just heard on CNN (yeah I finally managed to get the feed) that the plane was Lidle's a Yankee pitcher!

I have been watching fox news with updates. Eyewitnesses are saying that a small plane ran into Belaire near the 20th floor.

Fire and smoke are still billowing from the structure. Eyewitnesses also state the plane hit the building and fell. (as seen from a long dark streak running from the point of impact to the ground.

There is a great deal of first responders and medical teams at the location currently. Though the mention of a helicopter had been brought up, eyewitnesses continue to state a plane slammed into the building.

As of current the FBI is stating this is not terror-related but according to BBC.CO.UK fighter jets are flying over numerous US cities.

Looks like plane was for a fact registered too and is SUSPECTED to have been piloted by NY Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle who was indeed to be flying home for the off season today in his own plane.

In 1979 on Oct 1, New York Yankee Team captain and catcher [SIZE=-1]Thurman Munson died piloting his own jet.

The fact that Cory owned and piloted his own plane had been a concern in the Yankee Organization which had a history with Munson.

Okay, just got another feed.

The plane is a twin engine prop which left New Jersey's Teterboro Airport at 2:30 PM, 15min prior to impact. According to the FAA the plain was not in contact with the FAA

It is registered to Cory Lidle as per FAA records.

Apparantly this particular plane was one of the safest small planes there is.

The Sirrus SR 20 is one of few if not the only plane, apparently that comes equipped with a ballistic parachute, meaning if you lose power a big parachute blows out and sets the whole plane down gently.

Lidle was quoted several times as pointing out that his plane had this feature to ease the concerns of the Yankee organization, team mates, and family.

New Reports confirm Lidle was the pilot and say that he was the only person onboard.

His passport was found on the scene.
