Odyssey7Q February 2014 Firmware Update

No dropped frames here either. And I've shot about 8 hours of footage. I suspect it's the cable. Try another (3G one). If you're still having problems, contact support.

IT IS NOT A CABLE ISSUE. There are units out there that have this issue. I called cd and spoke with Dan yesterday and he said the fw will fix this, and said he was sure it was not a cable... Kinda sucks.

I am trying to wait on this new FW, but right now I have a unit I can't use, no way I could deal with the stuff popping up on the frames. If it isn't out in the next few days I'm sending back to CD to swap out. This is insane....

Hi Mitch, Can we get an ETA firmware please?

I have paid jobs coming up and I bought a 7Q (actually I bought an FS700 and a completely new setup, based on the specs from the 7Q) for those jobs. It would be great to use it.

Will the firmware update fix/solve the problem that if u record 2k raw 240fps, you won't able to record 24p to the same SSD again? If it can be solve through firmware update, then i will get 2 512GB, if can't solve, maybe i will thinking of getting 4 256GB. But keep on swapping to record different frame rate is kinda headache and easy miss shot.

I believe Mitch has said this firmware update will solve that.

That said, I personally went with four 256GB drives. If you shoot a full terabyte of 240fps, you'll have nothing to shoot on while those are transferring. Which, depending on the computer's connection/drive speed, could be a long, long time.

I'm pretty sure that's getting fixed.

Bummer, sorry dude. I expect it will come this week, if that's any consolation.

I pray that you have psychic abilities Colin.

@Dapoopta. Sorry for your problems. This is probably stating the obvious, but have you tried a second card? Also, I have found that under the current firmware, it's a bit better to just run 1 card instead of 2, unless you are doing 240fps.

MY Odyssey 7Q has an amazing looking image but it seems to skew to the green. Are other people finding this? I've been through a lot of threads and have not seen it mentioned. I'm wondering if this is a fw or phase adjustment thing or whether its actually related to the monitor being backed with LEDs which often have a green hue.

Definitely firmware. The disparity between the fs700 lcd and the 7Q will apprently be fixed in this firmware that apple is keeping us all from getting. I've seen my 7q get very green on occassion when the camera is reporting correct white balance.

Yes, tried with 1 ssd. The issue has nothing to do with any of that, Dan said it is the units recording fs700 raw. some have issues. Which to me is insanity to release something with a problem that you have a fix for but haven't rolled out because of a codec licensing issue. Sad. I'm still deciding to keep this thing or not, just still really upset about the whole situation haha

Patience, dapoopta, patience. The 7Q will be an even more amazing tool than it already is in not too long. If you send it back, you'll just be wanting to buy it all over again in no time. :D

Look at the positive side, you can still take a sneak peak in NY of the firmware that should be released long ago.
This is ridiculous, yesterday I just wanted to throw it down the hill after those false trigger and recording and stoping every 2 seconds. I missed the hole shot because to use it again a needed to format both drives and delete the previews recordings.
All this because of prores? Your device has SERIOUS firmware problems and you are waiting for a codec?
Please leave the sneak peaks and release a working firmware, you should focus on current customers.
I still don't know how i believed on that February thing.

Agreed. I've also had the false triggering. I didn't want to shut off camera trigger because at this point I need the comfort of SD card backup for standard speed stuff. As much as I want (and will love) ProRes, it's pretty outrageous they caused so much to hinge on one codec. Hopefully we get an update soon.

Only made it to part of the Abel event. Got to look quickly at the beta firmware. It looked pretty good, the fs700 4k to 1080p is a separate option you load into memory like 4k or multistream.

One thing that made me very sad was when Mitch said they were still thinking of not allowing recording LUTs at all. That would be terrible since it would mean there would be no options besides recording in SLOG2 which absolutely requires grading or at least the extra step of applying the right LUT in post. It would be pretty critical to be able to record broadcast-ready video and to be able to bake-in my intended look so I can retain control over the look when I have no control over post (which is often).

Good to hear that it can be solve, how long will it take to transfer 240fps in both 256gb full drive? transfer via usb3 sata?

USB 3 is pretty good. with USB 3 and Thunderbolt, I get about 15min per drive. That's when transferring to my RAID (fast write speeds). A guy I shot with last week was transferring to a Mac Pro that apparently had a USB 3.0 card, data was writing to a SAN (which they are fiber'd into), and it took about 45 minutes. Not sure where the weak link was in that chain.

Im eager for the codec as well, but at this point 1) do not use camera trigger, it will crash the 7Q eventually. Use the LCD trigger. 2) Unless you are shooting 240fps, use only one card. Two cards causes weird errors like the Miss-matched SSD Error, although 240fps works great as long as you don't switch frame rates.

I've followed this and the 7Q has worked great - no crashes or errors. Before I figured this out, it drove me crazy.
