Odyssey7Q February 2014 Firmware Update

Realistically, the firmware should be here in under two weeks, right? While I'd love compressed 4K, I'd settle for ProRes 1080p at this point. I'd just love to get the best I can get out of the FS700 on this island trip, without needing to bring along rackmount of drives and offloading multiple times a day.

Yeah, I need it in a 1 1/2 weeks as I have an out of state job. It would be really, really nice to have the compressed 4:2:2. PLEASE pressure Apple in releasing it by the 18th or so. I'm leaving on the 20th, but I need 1 day to test it. I'm kind of stressing about now. Thanks Mitch and Dan, and please keep us posted.

I am in exactly the same boat, same dates too... Fingers very much crossed!

Haha, I feel you. I'll be 7 days on an island, leaving around the 21st-23rd. Not sure how often we'll be able to dump footage (hopefully at least every night), but I'm hesitant to fill up the drives with RAW files. I'd hate to fall back on AVCHD. If I had to, I'd shoot RAW and compress to ProRes HQ at night.

shooting next week 20th march of the new BMW X5 interior, also would love to deliver good looking high-end production (without renting a camera), also fingers very much crossed for the update!! Go CD make us happy (again)

Shooting, or shall I say recording the president of the United States next week and really don't want to rent a pix240. So hopefully by next week.

In other news, let's all welcome the Secret Service agents who have now joined us in this thread. Hopefully they, too, will not have to wait long for Apple.

I'm assuming they'll X-Ray all the kit and use one of those bomb sniffers before they let you in. After Ahmed Shah Massoud was killed by a bomb hidden in a video camera, everyone is well aware of that little trick.

There you go. The fate of the free world hangs in the balance of the 7Q firmware. So yes, get it out quickly. Obama will have more clout in 4:2:2 10-bit than AVCHD. Save the 8-bit AVCHD for Ted Cruz or Sarah Palin

Actually it's the fate of his march madness picks and the client not wanting the internal codec of the F5's we'll be using.

Any word on possibly just releasing the rest of the firmware without pro res? I know Dan mentioned it was a matter of days and not weeks, and otherwise there was a backup plan. Seems unfortunately we are about 4 days away from transitioning into weeks, may be a good time to start thinking about that backup plan.

I think Mitch mentioned that it's just paper work at this point and all the tech stuff has been approved. So it might be too far to go back. And I actually need the Pro-Res HD as I'm shooting more a doc type thing in a 1 1/2 weeks, as opposed to more scripted type stuff; so lots more footage.

Well… here's to getting paper work done fast. After all, how long could that possibly take? Stressing though as the project looms closer :(

Longer than you think. The paperwork probably has to be reviewed and blessed by an army of lawyers and bureaucrats.
One little "T" not crossed or and "I" not dotted could delay things for who knows how long.

I hope CD learned their lesson about how long all this licensing can take.

I think they would be better off just concentrating on cDNG and making their own compressed versions of it.

If the company licensing the popular codec detected two issues during their review, we should be grateful for that quality review.

If the other codec does not enforce quality, who knows what could have been baked in after all that hurry, which is applied through social channels.
