Odyssey7Q February 2014 Firmware Update

I thank you again Clermond! Really appreciate it :)

Ahhh, so good to finally be able to open a Convergent Design DNG in adobe camera raw!

you are welcome - for ACR bring some time. Rendering 1115 frames 4K to ProRes LT took about 25mins

edit
I forgot that Adobe excluded in CS6 the GeForce GTX 680MX of my iMac.
There's hack/fix for that and hopefully after adding CUDA GPU in ray-tracing
prefs it will be faster now.

edit2
no improvement with Cuda activated. Seems that someone is hand painting each frame :-/

edit3
I made the same experience with the BMD too. Adobe is very slow with RAW files compared to Resolve

Hmm, i am totally new to RAW, and especially 4k. I downloaded one of Phillip Blooms test shots, just to see if i could open it in Premiere Pro. I was able to import it, but the footage is all purple tinted for me. I don't know the workflow, probably doing it wrong. I didn't run the footage through any kind of converter before hand or anything.

However, i did open up a dng file in Photoshop and WOW! Pretty amazing, the kind of grading and coloring you can pull off with these files.

What is the proper way to bring these in to PP and work in 4k? It would be nice to be able to re-frame or stabilize the 4k footage, and not have to work in 1080p. I'd like to see if my computer can handle this work flow, and i may dive in. Very impressed with the footage.

Has anyone seen any 4K>1080p popular codec material at all?

I am super stoked about Mitchs statement: "Ya`ll be gettin new cameras!" that came right after the announcement.

I think you'll have to wait for that. If Apple are yet to licence the O7Q with Pro Res, I think anyone with the Beta firmware will be excluded from posting any footage or commenting on it's quality.

On the plus side I doubt you'll have to wait long. It'll be days rather than weeks I suspect.

I had the same experience. It works importing it into After Effects, but that's far from ideal when wanting to do an edit. Plus it takes ages to render out of AE.

"What is the proper way to bring these in to PP and work in 4k?"

I believe CD said they made a change (in the upcoming release) to the .dng files so they would work in PP. They also said Adobe has to make a change which should be coming shortly.

Correct. Some Apps, such as Photoshop, will handle the new files perfectly well. Others such as Premiere will need a plugin from Adobe. Full integration soon between the two companys' products.

Hi Mitch,

Will the 7Q DNGs only work with the newer Adobe Creative Cloud? Or will it also work with the older CS6 applications?

Thanks

Great to hear, thanks Mitch! And rejdmast too!

It depends on how Adobe implements their updates. I can't speak for them and honestly don't know.

I have CC and CS6. I believe all the updates are only for CC. There are some bug fixes for CS6. After the fix for the 7Q .dng files comes out you will know. You can always download a free 30 day trial of CC. Right now, Resolve works fine.

Mitch ... again passed one month and we don't have any 7Q hardware on stock in Germany. My dealer said it depends on the wholesaler for Europe. I don't understand why CD is not able to deliver 7Qs to Europe. It can't depend on new firmware ... we would love to have 2K for the beginning until new fw will be released. I don't understand that ... sorry ... it sucks!

No shipment notice from my dealer in Germany, too.
I ordered in September last year. My dealer usually is very fast and responsive, they are listed on the CD website.

Staying in the U.S., it's disappointing to know, that I could walk around and grab a unit at local stores.

I ordered in September last year. My dealer usually is very fast and responsive, they are listed on the CD website. The bottleneck should be the quantity of units, shipped to the E.U. or the European distributor does not balance out his shipments.

Right now, I am visiting the U.S.. and it is disappointing to know, that units are on stock in town.

That doesn't sound right - I ordered around 11 Nov but cancelled when I found one in stock in the UK (BroadcastAV) and got it about a month ago :) I think I would probably have had the original order by now though or maybe I was just lucky ringing around for spare stock (which I did 4-5 times).

I did hassle everyone and anyone I could though and found the EMEA distributor (Symbiosis) very helpful indeed :) Maybe give them a call/tweet and see if they can help?

Flange to focal depth on the FZ mount is 19mm, not the same as the 18mm depth of the E-Mount.

Was that aimed at me? In which case the point is that the depth is so shallow, relative to most lens systems, that. There is plenty of Space to add in a reducer (speed booster) lens for. Most adapters.

Hi Mitch and Dan,

So it's glorious Friday. Please give us an update as to the Firmware. Even if it's bad news, it's better than no news at all.

Thanks for any info

Hi Mitch. I suspect that the Canon update is not what is holding up the update, Can you guys separate it out? My C500 is begging you.
