Odyssey7Q April 2014 Firmware Update

I bought the FS700 Recording options from the CD website just now. I can't find an activation code for it. Not in the email confirmation, and i'm looking at my order on the website. It just says billing status is authorized, but the order status is "unshipped". Where do i find the activation code?

Sorry to drop that in, thanks!

Edit: emailed CD about it, but maybe i'm missing a simple answer.

log in to your CD account. Go to purchases. It should be there.

I'm thinking my CD account, and my CD store account are two different things. I was having trouble logging in, and to check out i had to make a separate store account. Looking at an email, it seemed like it was normal to have a store account. I don't know, maybe i was overly anxious! When i log in, i see no tab for purchases. I'm thinking Amber will be able to sort it out tomorrow.

Can I purchase the FS700 option before I have the unit? I'm getting it on Tuesday and I have a shoot starting wednesday so would like to do as much as I can before that...

The first thing i notice with the new update, is that the corners that circumvent the options when you press the crankwheel option button on the O7Q, does not go away when exiting the menu.

Odd bug, to have a lot of microscopic triangles stuck on the top left side of the monitor.

If I remember correctly you are going to need a serial # to make the Sony RAW purchase.

Martin, you should call that bug in to CD. I have been working extensively on two 7Q's and have not seen that one.

I know a bug that i havent had a chance to email CD about. After hitting the REC button on the Odyssey i then hit the hide button and couldnt get to unhide. I had to unfortunately pull the D-tap power to stop the odyssey from continuely recording, lol. luckily it didnt hurt the odyssey. Did i find a bug in the unit or did i overlook where to tap on the monitor to unhide while recoring?

Thanks,
Chris

Just got an email from CD:

We have found an issue with 2:1 Pixel Zoom during record in ProRes Mode. It is recommended that you do not use 1:1 or 2:1 Pixel Zoom while recording as it could cause file corruption. This pertains to firmware 1.11.100.

We have identified the problem and will have a fix in the next firmware release.

Im sure they'll post here too - but just in case.

You will need your 7Q serial number to register it and buy the FS700 option.

Where do you input the serial number? I made an account on CD website and when I login and click Activation it says "You do not have access to view this tab within the portal.".

Did anyone catch CDs/Mitch's not quite pre-nab announcement? It wasn't the new recorder. I presume it wasn't the bug fix firmware? We've had some hints about likely 4k 50/60p prores soon...

is is it a different surprise still to come? Any guesses?

I just tried logging in and clicking Activation and the Activation page came up fine. Maybe you should try another browser. Worst case give CD a call.

CD fixed it at their end after I sent a message via twitter. All good now.

Hey Mitch, i notice you had a Convergent Design sun hood on the 7Q at NAB. Is that available now, if not any idea when it might be? Thanks. The little director's screen rig you had looked great.

at the first sight 4K2HD ITU 709 800% is much closer to sLog than to ITU 709.
Minimum ISO indicated is 2000 same as in sLog and saturation is also decreased.
I have to admit I used ITU709 800% setting only once when the camera was new in 2012 for
a comparison but I cant remember details.

Unfortunately it's cold and cloudy today and I could not run a test is sunny and high contrast condition.

REC 709 - highlights seem clipped, but are still recoverable

So latitude aside - how are people dealing with color correcting the prores files (slog2) in post?
I find there is a significant shift as supposed to when in one of the cine modes (well actually all modes except for slog2 and rec709(800) - especially when it comes to the reds:
When I point my fs700 towards something red and swich from cine modes to slog2 or rec709(800) that red goes orange - and it takes alot of work i post to bing it to look like the red I see in the cine modes . Whit is up with that? That same scene in 4kraw Reslove sees it correct - but I'd prefer to keep my workflow to prores 4k2hd in Premiere.. so how to do that? Advice is very much appreciated..

I asked Mitch this same question and he told me he was referring to the most recent Firmware update. To his credit, all he said was it was something that would make us "happy." He didn't say "thrilled" or "ecstatic" - but yeah, I had built up a bit more anticipation for something surprising in my head.

But, I guess technically... he was right. Firmware updates that add features/improve the unit will make me happy - even if it isn't as significant as 4K ProRes or some of the other upcoming features. Now I'm just waiting for the next one, haha.

I'm surprised there hasn't been much talk about the data corruption issues in the latest firmware - data corruption in recorded files when using the 1:1 and 2:1 pixel zoom modes (as reported by CD in a bulletin) and also another user on Twitter reported corruption recording HD input (not 4K2HD), although that last one could be an issue specific to his input (was recording from Sony F3). Makes me a little nervous even though I've not seen an issue yet, but then I've not had a shoot since the update, so only done a little testing.

I would love to hear a workflow too!

Regarding file corruption:
I recorded a clip today on a drive already filled with yesterdays clips. I then safe ejected. The computer cant find the folder of today, the Odyssey plays it back...?

Sorry guys, off on a brief holiday. Paul, thanks for posting this to the forum.

We have not seen this problem a lot but enough that we felt it prudent to issue the warning. We will make a fix available as soon as possible.

After my note, we released the file combiner software to our website, announced Athena and released new firmware just a few weeks after our previous release.
