Odyssey7 & Odyssey7Q October 2014 Firmware Update

Mitch, what are the plans for the remote connector now that Bluetooth support was ditched. Is it possible in the future to remotely play and mark shots? Might be quite useful rather than using the onscreen controls.
In a word, yes. We definitely plan to make such controls available via the RMT remote port. Most likely we will enable the port with a bunch of command series via RS-242 and publish an SDK for people to create their own interfaces. That's just to get something out there. Then later we'll offer our own device for the interface. At least that's the teory for right now.

Whiskey ... Damn iPhone... So intuitive... Whilst scrubbing the bottom bar on playback of an fs700 uhd prores clip I get stuttering and jumping. More poking then hangs playback. Going to clip menu deselecting the clip and selecting again fixes the freeze but problem immediately reproducible. I did set a couple of markers on the clip though. Could be related. If I clear the markers (2-3) it goes away. Anyone else reproduce?

Minor issue. I'm liking the marker ability, and liking the new menu a lot. Really feels like a redesign of the gui . Hitting setup and seeing the major setting on one page. Golden. Having options you cant select visible but greyed out in some modes. Educational :)

nice work cd!
In the release notes you'll find that scrubbing issue documented as a known issue. We're working on it.

then when i plug in the drive using the CD usb sata hub it shows the drive being full even though i formatted it in the recorder. says only 256mb free. anyone know why?

all my drives are behaving this way. even though they have been formatted and ejected correctly , when i plug it in the pc they show as full drives with no data on them.
If you are still having issues I suggest you contact our support line.

got it installing, i wasnt copy and pasting it correctly, again, lol

whose idea is it to number the new updates with MASTER numbers? 11:11 and now 10:10 , pretty epic Mitch!!! everything is everything

Went out for a test drive in 4K to UHD ProRes mode. Really liking the footage but the darkening of the screen once record starts is extremely frustrating outdoors. Literally working in the dark with focus.

Here's some footage I managed to get IN focus (well... mostly)

I feel ya on this. That's probably why the FS7 is going to such a great camera, because of the LUTs. I hope the 7Q can get some display LUTs soon.

Anyways, I shot a promo for Disney last Thursday on a green screen soundstage using the latest firmware shooting 4K UHD. I was a bit nervous because we had about 10 producers from both Disney and the Production company just sitting behind a 24" monitor watching the feed all day. We did a test shot at the start of the day, keyed the footage and the director was very happy. For the rest of the day, the 7Q worked very well.

Seems like the new firmware has made the 7Q a lot snappier and quicker, 4K playback worked well and it generally seems to work a bit better with every firmware.

Everyone from the Director to the client loved the footage. Very happy with 4K Pro-Res. Very happy.

LUTs are a major priority for us. As everyone knows by now, we really just had to get the 4K ProRes completed, but there's more stuff on the way.

Mitch,

LUT's are important, but also the ability to lessen the noise of the FS700. If the idea of lowering the base ISO (in Slog2/ 709-800%) and reducing noise is still on the table, it is the camera's main flaw in my opinion. Especially with the 4K to HD footage.

Thanks.

That is achieved with the use of a 3D-LUT.

Hi Mitch,

Wondered if heat and power draw were the main issues in order to get the 4K ProRes frame rates up to 60p? Would it be possible to at least have an "overcrank" mode that might be limited in recording time but still at least be a mild slow mo option?

There are other issues at hand but we are working on them. We are quite confident that we can save some power elsewhere to eliminate the need for OLED dimming.

First we make the code work. Then we make it more efficient. Then we expand upon it.

I duno what am i missing. After update i cant use the hdmi, nothing shown on the screen. Tried with A7s and 5dmkIII, both blank and show no input. Before update it works

Will ProRes 422, ProRes LT and ProRes Proxy ever be added to the the 7Q recording options both in 4K2HD and 4K? I'd love to be able to have much longer recording times with more compression. Thanks.
