Odyssey7 & Odyssey7Q October 2014 Firmware Update

I was wondering why i didn't see the brightness drop while recording UHD Compressed. Turns out i had my oled set for lowest brightness since day 1 when i messed with the settings. Forgot all about it. I think i did that because the recorded image looked about as bright as the screen on the lowest brightness on my first test. Thought it would help me judge better by eye. So for me, i guess i'm already used to it! But i'm glad for the reminder so next time i shoot in the sun i can see better...

Love the update!

Thats interesting - would be interesting to see the runtime at 50% vs lowest.

Its coming a little later, as they did something wrong with the web package or something.

thanks for the info, Martin. Imho it's quite urgent as UHD ProRes will meet the 4GB file size quick and we will need it for combining splitted clips. Up to then we will fiddle with mounting manually.,

So can we not use the old ProRes transfer utility for the UHD files? How are people going to be using the files until the update comes out?

Put them into Adobe Premiere Pro and and link them together.

No issue really. AVCHD from FS700 behaves exactly the same. Splits at 4 gigs. I just did a job yesterday recording 4 hours of AVCHD. Today comes the job of combinging and sorting all the small files.

Whiskey ... Damn iPhone... So intuitive... Whilst scrubbing the bottom bar on playback of an fs700 uhd prores clip I get stuttering and jumping. More poking then hangs playback. Going to clip menu deselecting the clip and selecting again fixes the freeze but problem immediately reproducible. I did set a couple of markers on the clip though. Could be related. If I clear the markers (2-3) it goes away. Anyone else reproduce?

Minor issue. I'm liking the marker ability, and liking the new menu a lot. Really feels like a redesign of the gui . Hitting setup and seeing the major setting on one page. Golden. Having options you cant select visible but greyed out in some modes. Educational :)

nice work cd!

The old utility does work. I used it yesterday to merge my UHD clips. However, I'm assuming the old utility will not transfer the new markers until it's updated.

Mitch - can you give us an ETA on the CD Prores transfer tool? Was it not meant to be yesterday? Thanks.

Is the screen dimming only with the smaller Sony batteries (NP-F770) or is it with the larger (NP-F970) batteries as well?

Here's something I shot today in 4K Prores using the new firmware:

Everything went smooth - it was a bit of a hassle though, that the screen dimmed down everytime I pushed REC - hard to pull focus in harsh sunlight, but with a screen around the 7Q it went fine.

i having an issue copy and pasting the new update into the SSD folder. I did the last update a few weeks ago, lol. anyone have an idea why the folder name copies into the ssd folder and not the 3 files in the folder?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi everyone,

first, a big thank you to Convergent Design for the new update, it really eases our workflow at Stereo Films.
Here is the little test we did quickly last night to see what we were dealing with, hope it helps.
There is a youtube version to watch in 4k and a vimeo version in 1080p (but you can download the original 4k file from vimeo)

More tests should follow!

Cheers, Ganael

then when i plug in the drive using the CD usb sata hub it shows the drive being full even though i formatted it in the recorder. says only 256mb free. anyone know why?

all my drives are behaving this way. even though they have been formatted and ejected correctly , when i plug it in the pc they show as full drives with no data on them.

I think that is the way it should be. It looks like CD pre allocates all of the 4GB blocks.

You can format the SSD as NTSC if you like just to make sure it is empty. It won't hurt anything. I have done it. Then reformat in the 7Q.

When I copy the firmware to the SSD you get some messages. Just ignore/bypass them.
