Yesssss!!

Thanks Mitch. Making my Wednesday feel like a Monday! ;)

I can't wait to try UHD ProRes! Audio recording is also a big plus!
-All the best, Rafael

Can anyone explain what 4x SDI means? Is it four SDI cables or is it a certain kind of SDI cable?

It is four SDI cables. That is how we currently get 4K video from the F55 (or hacked F5), the GH4-YAGH and other setups. In the near future we will also be able to accept 4K video via two 3G-SDI feeds (2x 3G) from the F5/F55, the GH4-YAGH and the Phantom Flex4K.

On the FS7/FS700 we are deriving the 4K video from the 4K RAW feed, which is a single 3G-SDI connection.

Sorry, so to be clear, for the FS700, it's just one SDI cable or four? Just want to know if I need to go to the store :)

It appears that we had a little problem getting the complete download packet up on our site. Right now it is the firmware only and the version including the release notes, new manuals, set-up guides and the new ProRes Transfer Utility will come a little later today.

Here are a couple of gems that are not in the official press release:

- In creatng the new deBayer to get from FS700 4K RAW to UHD ProRes, we improved the deBayer on the 4K to HD version as well.
- We lowered power draw in ProRes modes and on the SSDs when they are idle. This should significantly extend battery life.

There's much more in there as well. This is not just a "4K ProRes release".

Thanks Mitch and team - looking forward to trying it out today.

Were there any fixes to image display bugs in multi-stream display mode?

Cheers.

BTW - what happens if power dies (battery) during an update? Does it brick the o7Q or does it reboot from the old f/w?

I should have powered from mains but in my haste, started the update with O7Q on battery without thinking doh!

hey Mitch-

very exciting news.

not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but are there plans to support full native DCI 4K ProRes with the FS700 or is there a technical limitation? thanks.

Let's hope you make it all the way through!

It depends on where you are in the update, but there is the potential of bricking the unit. It will definitely not boot in the old firmware as the update over-writes this. If you do lose power during a firmware update, re-power the Odyssey with the SSD already mounted in the unit. The update process should begin again on initialization. If it doesn't, call us.

Sorry - more questions I just thought of:

1) Will you have a list of changes / fixes / features in the new CD prores transfer utility?
2) I presume this will be available today too?
3) You say power management has improved and run times extended - that's both in Prores record mode and monitoring only modes yes? - what kind of increase in runtimes do you expect?
4) with the updates menus, is this the work you were doing a while ago or are there still major menu changes to come (medium term)?

Thanks!

We do plan to do it in the future, but wanted to get the broadcast version complete and available first. It's what most people use.

Thnaks - I was a bit hasty/stupid! hope it does get through!

YES

2) I presume this will be available today too?

CORRECT

3) You say power management has improved and run times extended - that's both in Prores record mode and monitoring only modes yes? - what kind of increase in runtimes do you expect?

POWER EFFICIENCY IS INCREASED WHEN IN ANY PRORES MODE AND WHEN IN LIVE STANDBY WITH AN SSD MOUNTED. I DON'T HAVE NUMBERS RIGHT NOW BUT I AM TOLD THE POWER SAVINGS IS SIGNIFICANT.

4) with the updates menus, is this the work you were doing a while ago or are there still major menu changes to come (medium term)?

THIS IS PHASE ONE. AS WE INCREASE ODYSSEY FUNCTIONALITY WE WILL MENU FUNCTIONALITY.

Thanks!
