Odyssey Upgrade Today....

Thanks Mitch. It need 2x 3G-SDI input? So need 2 IF box with F35 I think. Very difficult.

The F35 can output 12bit RGB 444 at 23.98p over dual link (1.5x2) HD-SDI. In theory that means it should only require one 3G port... but just as Mitch isn't familiar with the F35, I'm not familiar with the O7Q.

Obviously quad link is required for 50p 444...

There are only two reasons why an on-the-fly 4k uprez would be better than an optimal one done in post:
- Efficiency (no time lost)
- Prior to any compression

However, in numerous other respects, it's a losing proposition. And given the very small marketshare the F35 represents, and the fact that we've already invested in a wide variety of recorders, there's negligible economic incentive for Convergent Designs to develop and market such a feature. Some months ago Mitch was commenting on this board, and the idea of coding the O7Q to fufill F35 12bit, ramping, and variable frame rate was broached. Mitch went so far as to ask in the forum who would buy an 07Q if such a license was available. Crickets. Dead room. Seems like he kind of abandoned this forum after that exchange, and I can't blame him.

But there is a second point to consider. A standard 1080 to 4k (or UHD) uprez treats the RGB components of each pixel as mapped on top of one another (1920 horizontal luma values) - which is what it ought to do - but such an algorith fails to account for the fact that an RGB strip sensor actually can map each color to a specific photosite position, intra pixel (5760 horizontal luma values). In theory, this provides even more data for an improved 4k uprez. But good luck getting someone to implement something that specific in a field recording device or converter box.

Haha man... i do agree with everything you're saying and agree, but one could hope! I don't know why I want the 4k uprez, but it would satisfy some weird craving in me to put it up against 4k from epics or what not. having it be coded specifically to the stripe sensor would be amazing too, but obviously wouldn't happen.

I already own a 7q and F35, but I would have loved to pay for an O7Q upgrade for it. I'm actually considering getting a second 7Q for my second F35 that I just got.... would be nice to have a fail proof solution for both of them.

Skatajkid,
Does the 7Q recognize a 12bit F35 signal when recording to DPX? I tried to use a Convergent's Gemini in the past (which was also 12bit capable) to record a 12 bit F35 signal, but no dice.

I believe the F35 is the only camera that sends 12-bit 444 in this method, so we will need to borrow one from someone to test and make it work. We do just fine with the C500.

50p and visual confirmation VS a flashing box. pretty good to have man :) Plus it's a decent HD monitor!

The only things lacking for me now are Custom LUTS and Custom Voltage Warnings. Mitch? :)

Anyone had a blue line in the recording yet? I had a shoot today and we shot in 1080p 25fps from Sony F35. After 3 days of shooting today out of nowhere from switching from playmode to rec-mode a blue big line was introduced to the picture. We couldnt continue to shoot, i tried reset, i tried to go into the other modes that are paid options as i thought it could be something like a watermark...Went back to 1080p and its still there even after 3 restarts...Really bad situation today for my company. The scrub in the play mode first didn't work - when i wanted to show a long recording it just stopped showing the picture immediately when we started scrubbing and then the bar was introduced. that's a bad one...

i've had little display glitches, but nothing that's effected the recorded image!

glitches i've had:

display looks washed out and blue in live view mode (as though the white balance was off) but not in recording
scrubbing and playback not working. but a flick back to live mode fixed it.
crashing when zooming in to 1x1 - in old firmware
rainbow snow/noise - because the HDSI cable was a bit old and ****. (this one did show up in the recording but was user error :)

looks like demo mode, try to activate your odyssey again in the activation menu... cd support is your friend.

Hello All, i found another post about this problem and the solution to it is very easy if you know it is a watermark...At the set i thought about 100 different reasons like bad signal and so on...It was not a relaxed atmosphere to elaborate in depth...

As Stefan already mentioned by activating the unit again it gets rid of the blue bar. It went back to demo mode while scrubbing through the playback and having a problem with playback, therefore be aware of the following solution:

Menu > Odyssey > Set > Activation > unit

@Convergent: Maybe you write "watermark" into the blue bar that people that activate the device immediately after the purchase and are unaware of how your watermark looks like know what exactly this is when the device goes back to demo mode for whatever reason. Would have maybe saved my ass yesterday...

I have one. I have 2 f35s. 12 bit pro res 4444 works great out of the f35 into aja multiplexer into pix 240. Thats what i use for 12 bit 4444 workm if i could do the same w 07q man that would sell another 07q to me. Less weight. Less power draw. Mitch let me know if youre serious on your offer. Help this group of 10 filmmakers and well promise to see each 100 07qs.
