Odyssey SSD Announcement

Thats a really bad comparison. I am looking to sell the FS7Q0 in order to get the FS7, and this announcement just gutted my wallet directly.
When I buy a house, my primary goal is to live in that house. When I buy a computer I want that computer to do the work I need it to do in the way that I like.

Our job is to make the Odyssey a product that works for you as best as possible and will continue to do so for as long as possible. We will continue to do work to keep owners of our products happy with the devices we make for them. If you want to get out of the Odyssey-owning business, well that's not what we are here for. Upgrade to a new one, buy a second unit, expand your use of the device, all great. Sell it and walk away is not a goal.

same situation here Martin, swapping the FS700 for the FS7. Being on a tight budget I was thinking the same, especially as you need the XDCA extension for recording RAW which I don't have on the list. I decided to keep the 7Q because I need a monitor anyhow and no doubt he 7Q is a great monitor. Selling the 7Q and spending money for a 7" OLED screen with loadable LUTs will be a bad economical move if not to say nonsense.

With the FS7 you can run a small set up in high quality XAVC 10bit recording or use a bigger rig with the 7Q as a monitor and HD 8bit ProRes backUp recording or high end with (rental) XDCA and RAW recording.

Yes, these are the handles to mount onto the qualified Samsung SSDs for use in the Odyssey monitor/recorders.

Hi Mitch, i am also waiting for the 2015-07 update to use SSD´S. While waiting for this update i was checking where to order these handles. I found them in the States for 25 US$ which is a price i find ok. I live in Europe. And i found a reseller in UK who sells them for 40 GPB. So i am interesting in your reseller management. 40 GPB is about 65 US$. The price is more than doubled. I know the reseller have to pay taxes. But sorry i wont pay 65 US$ for 5 small plastic parts.

Arent you give resellers discount so they can sell parts almost same price than in us?

We have a suggested US price for our products, but for foreign dealers there are shipping costs, import duties, VAT and other associated costs. Some countries have regulations and additional tariffs for certain types of technology products. I can assure you that this cuts both ways, with some European products costing a small fortune compared to their prices in the exporting country. We do try to work with our international distributors and the dealers within their networks, but it is not like Convergent Design is making more money off the sale of products overseas. The opposite is true -- we make less.

So, changed my Gemini 444 for 2 SSD's that now got cheaper plus third party ssd are available for even cheaper. Not a great deal ! Dissapointed

And how long ago was that? For how long did you get a new monitor/recorder that was substantially better than your previous device, with a new warranty and far greater capabilities? And now you can buy more media for it for less money.

I bought the Odyssey 7Q to record 10bit ProRes from my F3, then it came in handy on C100/C300 shoots, even EX-3 shoots. Now I use it with my a7s.

Just last week I loaded custom 3D LUTS with CD's new firmware so I could monitor the CION's output. I've never owned a device that's ported over to so many third party devices before and keeps gaining functions that keep it relevant.

My other recording devices never did all that.

I thought you needed the Odyssey 7Q+ to record in 4k with the A7S? Am I missing something? Or are you just using it with the not so nice 1080p?

Mitch...for few hundred bucks i wish i kept my recorder....That was 3 months ago i think...

And you still got a deal! I bought mine new with no free SSD's, no all inclusive license, the FS700 dropped thousands in price, and Elon Musk introduced household batteries for under $3500 bucks...Whoa is me! I mean seriously your equipment is no longer a slowly depreciating asset, cameras are now like cars whereas you drive them off the lot and boom money lost! The difference is the service you offer with it and your car doesn't become more useful with continual firmware upgrades.

Not sure if the right place... a friend just called about a C500 for a good price... when will the Q7 record 4k pro res and 4k60p pro res from it... funny he calls not long after posting about the C500/Q7 combo on another thread...

With the Odyssey RAW Bundle in an Odyssey7Q+ or 7Q, one can currently record 4K Apple ProRes up to 30p. We will soon add 4K60p Apple ProRes in a free firmware update.
