Odyssey firmware 2016.06

Just a heads up to anyone reading this. I'd assumed (from this thread) that 50p was still fine with .dpx files in firmware 2016.06 (and that it was only ProRes 50p it couldn't do). But the .dpx recording doesn't work either - every second frame is merely a duplicate :/

That means you'll have to go back to firmware 2016.01 if you want to record 50p slowmotion material with the F35.

Great!

Can I also please put through an urgent request for an option for frame guides that uses opaque/semi-transparent borders instead of just lines?

Lately I've had to do a fair bit of operating from the 7Q+ and it's been a bit of a nightmare trying to compose just from framelines - It'd be a huge boon both for operating and for the feed out to video village, if we could get the clearer representation that opaque borders provide. Having to still use camera tape to cover up excess frame in 2016 seems a little painful and unnecessary!

Options for 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% opacity would be brilliant.

Thanks Mitch!

While I agree that it would be great to have this in the monitor settings, at this point in the product cycle the question I will be asked is "Will adding this feature result in additional sales of the product?"

I requested such shading several years ago, along with a host of other features. Many were implemented, but I can't promise that we can or will do everything. Just the way things go.

Well as a piece of coding that will both make operators/clients/video-village-dwellers happy, and will also be just as relevant carrying on to the 7Q's eventual successor, I'd say it's well worth the time.

But point taken.

...but please try and convey our begging for it to your engineers with the most abject sincerity.

Resolve 12.5.4 appears to have solved the ProRes 4444 super white and black issue. Perhaps my dpx days are numbered.. My hard drives are rejoicing!

Wasn't this among the original promised features (along with onion skinning and timelapse)? Are all of these considered unnecessary now? But point taken, time to move on!

So am I understanding that in latest firmware if you try to record F23/F35 50p/60p 422 in Prores the O7Q(+) will interpret it as two different cameras, and record separate streams in 25p/30p ? If so, assuming each on is of the respective SDI channel, I'd think a fairly simply After Effects composition template could recompile those clips into the correct 50p/60p stream.

I think we added it to a long list of "possible features" but I don't believe we ever promised it. You would not believe the length of the list that I submitted of "possible future added features." It literally went on for pages and many functions are still not available in any device of any kind today. The first response I got back from the engineers was to include a pizza oven & expresso maker.

Well first off, this thread is an old one and doesn't address our latest firmware. I don't know why we resurrected this zombie thread, but here we are. The current firmware is 2016.10. I guess if you're an F35 guy you don't venture over to other parts of the forum.

I don't have an F23/F35 handy, but I believe you are correct. These two are the only cameras around that deliver a 1080p 50/60 as a Dual-Link 1.5G-SDI connection. So yes, they are seen as a pair of separate video signals but can be recombined in post. I'm pretty sure that's true, but it's been a bit since I dealt with these cameras.

That's my fault for the zombie resurrection, Mitch. I got excited reading that bit of news and remembered this thread. I'm also doubly-guilty for living in my F35 bubble and not venturing to other sections of DVXuser.

Regarding innovation, crack the whip on those engineers Mitch! I am 6 episodes into Westworld and we've got A LOT of work to do if we're ever going to have displays that thin and powered off the moisture in the air

I'll give you the same answer my Gaffer use to toss at me whenever I asked for something that he was going to utterly ignore:

I'll put my best man on it.

Well, I own three F23 cams now, so if you're ever need a unit for testing there's a fair shot I'd be able to spare one.

By the way, doing 10bit RGB 444 on the F23 to ProRes 444 on the O7Q does create some wierd interlace artifacting in the O7Q display and HDMI output, but no issue in the file when transferred to a laptop. This was at 29.97p.

I confirmed with the engineers - no dual-link 422 1080p 50/60 support. But your After Effect fix should work fine.

For that interlacing issue, check on your Odyssey in the Output menu. The VIDEO PSF OUT should be set to OFF. That will give you a True Progressive image and alleviate this issue.

That's just for ProRes right? We've still got 50p .dpx support right?

Yes, we left DPX support alone, so you do have a direct solution. ProRes was altered because that is what we use for our Dual-HD mode.

Hey, you guys have the cameras in hand along with your Odysseys. I'm happy to answer questions but if you're concerned as to whether you have a function or not you can probably determine it for yourself faster than I could tell you. Just sayin', don't stress yourselves out.
