Odyssey Firmware 2015.7

NEW ODYSSEY FIRMWARE 2015.7
Released Wednesday, July 8

NEW FEATURES (ODYSSEY7 / ODYSSEY7Q / ODYSSEY7Q+)

Third-Party SSD Support

NOTE: Updating firmware on an Odyssey monitor/recorder requires the use of an SSD. If an Odyssey monitor/recorder is currently running firmware version 5.10.100 (March 2015) or 2015.5 (May 2015) then a qualified Samsung SSD (see list above) as well as an Odyssey SSD can be used to perform the update. Samsung SSDs require the Convergent Design SSD Handle kit to mount in an Odyssey monitor/recorder. Odyssey monitor/recorders running earlier firmware versions must use an Odyssey SSD to perform the update.

Can you use 1 CD and 1 Samung SSD in the Odyssey when doing high frame rate recording that requires RAIDing?

Nice one, that's great news, thank you!

I have immediately ordered 2 of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00P738MUU

The CD handles turned up yesterday, but they had no instructions. Do you have precise instructions as to where to use the superglue? I know it may be obvious, but would like the official line on how to use if possible please. My only slight worry is that by superglueing it will invalidate the warranty on the SSDs themselves - if I had to send them back to the supplier that is. Any thoughts on this? (hoping that won't ever be an issue, just asking the question just in case). Thank you.

A few of the earliest shipped SSD Handle kits went out without my glorious IKEA-style instructions. Here you go. Note that you are gluing the handle to the outside so it should not affect your warranty. I believe a bit of acetone will dissolve superglue.

Just a reminder to everyone:
The Samsung SSDs draw a bit more power than the Odyssey SSDs. Not a big issue but you should be aware of this for two reasons. When shooting high frame rates or in other modes with heavy power draw, the power needed by these SSDs will tax your batteries more heavily. Additionally, if you have an older computer then the power delivered via a USB3 port may not be enough to run the Samsunf SSDs reliably over a susstained period. That's not an issue the way most people use SSDs, pulling or saving a file here & there, but it can be a big problem when you download an entire 1TB at a time. Because of this Convergent Design recommends using either a Thunderbolt SSD adapter or a USB3 adapter that has an AC power supply. If you have a newer computer there is likely plenty of power but we felt such a warning to be prudent.

Great, thanks Mitch

Great!
And two questions for Mitch:

1) Do you fixed problem with few bad frames at the end of 4K/120fps clip?
2) Will you unblock other SSDs? For example Toshiba THNSNH GCST? Those are fully tested already I think :)

Updated the firmware and found a bug straight away. Submitted a support ticket. In this case, when in anamorphic desqueeze mode for a center extraction (2.39:1 or 2.67:1), focus a assist never goes entirely away, even when it's supposedly "off".

Sorry for the low quality video, but it should illustrate the problem well enough. Focus assist is in RED when it's turned on, and WHITE when it's turned off.

investigated further. basically, if you have focus assist set to LOW at 1% to display in WHITE, and toggled it on and off, it's identical.

As pointed out in the Release Notes, there can still be up to 10 extra frames that are junk on the end of a 4K120p RAW file. It makes it 450 frames instead of 440. This has been alleviated some but not entirely eliminated, but will be soon.

Do not plan on seeing more than the current list of Samsung SDDs to be qualified anytime soon. The Toshiba SSDs you mention are not qualified.

We'll look into it. If you switch out of anamorphic and back does this clear the issue?

doesn't clear the issue. it returns when you re-enter anamorphic desqueeze mode. let me know if you find an easy fix and i'll keep tinkering on my end.

Mitch:
Additional Preset LUTs:
Sony FS700 (Exposure Compensation)
SONY_EE_SL2_L709A-1
SONY_EE_SL2_L709A-2
Are these EXTENDED or LEGAL?

hmmmm....having some issues recording/monitoring RGB(on an F5) via .DPX with the new firmware. Screen flashes on and off, randomly. Also get a partial, 1/3 of the screen in solid purple, no image. Need to check my cables(C-D thin approved cables), but, wonder if anyone else is experiencing this.
