Odyssey 7Q to start shipping in November?

What about frame offset to sync separate audio & video sources (like SD Pix 240)? If not, is there any plans for that in the future and would it be limited to the 7Q? If so, what is the adjustment range available?

Audio offset is coming but I do not know if that function will be in the initial release firmware. We have the buffering room to make sure there is ample offset available. I'd be more specific but I don't think the engineers know just yet.

We have sent information to all of our dealers on accessories such as power cables. We will send this information out again next week in anticipation of the units shipping soon. If a dealer ever has a question they can contact our offices, and are invited to contact me personally.

We do make a cable to P-Tap as a standard accessory item. For that Swit battery in your link, we offer a cable to bare "flying leads," which could then be wired by your dealer. If they are not equiped or interested in doing this, please let me know and we can make you a custom cable ourselves. It will be much less for you to source locally then have this shipped over from the US. Additionally, Nebtek is making a battery mounting bracket for the back of the Odyssey7Q which will accept small camcorder batteries. For use on the FS700, I can imagine many clients will wish to use Sony L-series batteries (such as that Swit) which are then interchangeable between the camera and the Odyssey. A single large Sony battery should run the unit for several hours.

Many 3rd party manufacturers are setting up to make accessories for the Odyssey7 & Odyssey7Q. For both a hood and a padded pouch I would suggest looking at the offerings from PortaBrace.

For mounting, the case has 1/4"x20 sockets on the sides as well as one in the lower center back of the unit. While there are many arms, ball heads and other various backers already available on the market, again some 3rd party companies are making specific solutions for this product. There will soon be a yoke-style monitor mount available from one and a handheld solution from another. Stay tuned.

Thank you very much for this information Mitch! You guys att CD are great!

Hi Mitch,
Just to be sure, on your website it say's that the Odyssey 7Q accepts 10-34v power and You mentioned here that it can accept down to 6.5v. This is a huge deal for me since I running around with swit batteries (http://www.swit-battery.com/EN/product.aspx?id=47) that output 7.2v. I want to power both the camera and the monitor with this battery. I guess my question is if a 7.2v battery like the one I mentioned can run the Odyssey 7Q and all of its functions a 100%?

Thanks for feeding us with information :) much appreciated!

Hi freshTEA,

I've looked in the past at possibly getting that SWIT battery with the output terminal, with the idea of using it in my FS700 and the cable coming out of the battery and then in to my viewfinder and/or light, but it looked from the picture that there wouldn't be enough gap in the FS700's battery compartment for a cable to be plugged in to the battery's output terminal. Have you been able to use it successfully this way?

Thanks!

It works :-) my DC cable isn't even that slim and it works. One battery to fuel them all!

Great, nice one freshTEA, thanks. Probably a better solution than buying expensive and bulky V-Lock mount and batteries - although the SWIT batteries will need changing more often.

True.. But I just got back from a film gigg now and used SWIT battery to fuel my fs700 and a smallHD 4" and one battery lasted a good 3hour at least. The odyssey would prob need more fuel but having 3 SWIT batteries and you could prob shoot all day. Def more to my liking than a bulky battery. :-)

That's convenient, for sure. But, if you run a power zoom, camera, and external monitor, I promise you, you'll be changing out batteries faster than you can say Loretta.

Yeah for sure it is not an ideal solution maybe for most high-end productions but its really convenient, esp when all you want is to power your camera and the monitor in a lightweight fashion :) But yeah it all depends on the situation.

I run both. When handheld on longer shoots I have the vlock on a back plate with a 12 & 7 volt dtap. I can run the camera and the alphatron and move all the weight to the back. Short I use the swit to power camera, alphatron, and shortly teradek clip!
Also prefer it on the steadicam.
really hoping 7q can do swit voltage too.
incidentally the main deciding factor is if I'm going to be shooting a lot of slomo.

i did a 42kms outrigger canoe race from a chase boat recently. Was fine on swits till halfway, then changed to primarily slomo broll to cut with - damn . Used 1.5 7s vlocks

Hey Fresh Tea,

Can you list the URL to the battery that you are using to power the monitor and camera again? Thanks so much.

Gene

Edit: my bad Fresh Tea, I just saw your link. Thanks.

Yes, we need to update the website. We've expanded the acceptable voltage range for this very purpose.

Np :) Seems like things have turn out for the better now (having in mind that this was an issue for both of us)

Pythonman:

I posted som pictures here a while ago:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?311373-7Q-Battery-Options-Thread

Have in mind that the stores around my neighbourhood did nod carry a suitable dc to dc cable so I build one myself as you prob can see :p

Thanks Fresh Tea, this is pretty cool. Since I'm technically inept with cables, I can probably have someone make one for me. That's the nice thing about living in LA, you can get any made for your camera.

Can't wait to see some reviews on the Odyssey.

My biggest question is: Will ProRes definitely be added? (I'm not going to ask when because I suspect there's no answer for that, but happy to hear otherwise! )

Hi friends!!!

Will any of the Odyssey codecs work in Edius NLE by placing them in the timeline without converting using optional software?

Thanks,
Chris
