Odyssey 7Q SSD's Jailbreak? Yes, its true

The cost of the CD drives and the FS codec is the reason I don't yet own an O7Q. I was at I point where I could have afforded it but the cost of drives (this was before the 2 included ones) and the FS codec made it too expensive so I got an A7s instead.

I wish that they made it possible to record let's say HD up to 30p on any drive. That way you could get it and at least get started using it at lower cost. Now the entry is just too steep when you need drives + FS codec.

I only hope hope they keep the deal with 2 drives included for long enough for me to save up for one, some deal like that is probably my only chance to ever being able to afford to get an O7Q. Which I want, really really badly.

Thats true - if i connect SSD CD via sata3 to my PC Windows7 say open files from Toshiba disc. :(

But i like CD and i buy oryginal ssd and i'm happy! :)

Why not just buy a used 7Q? You may be able to find a 7Q with SSDs and FS RAW for the same or below the price of a 7Q+...

Because... they don't show up very often in these parts. It seems like the second hand market is very different from the U.S. and Europe. You see them occasionally but only when you don't have the money ;)

I dont know who you guys, but I had enough to see how Convergent Design rip us off on their super-duper-ultra SSD disks which are normal Toshiba THNSNHxxxGCST.
Soooo I grab two of them, did some tweaks and viola. Works like a charm. All recording modes without problem. Two times cheaper. Thank you.

So please CD. Do special release fix for your devices and let to ALL USERS decide which drives they want to use...
...or somebody else will release it.

cheers!
Intriguing but...i'm not going to overheat my odyssey, drop frames, and who knows what else. These guys have been pretty transparent with EVERYTHING including a thread in which the pres of the company told us the what, why, and how of the proprietary nature of their drives. If you think about it, it's probably why none of the lower end BM cams are able to do HFR etc. As much as i'd like a cheaper media alternative, at this level of the game its probably best to play by the rules. I've grown to enjoy having s*%t that just works.

After struggling with the Shogun to get dependable recording, even 1 black frame in 30 minutes is unacceptable IMHO. I sent my Shogun back after trying lots of "recommended" drives, never found one that was always clean.

I think the CD SSDs are a great bargain, they are tested and guaranteed to work and they do. I have never had a single bad frame on a CD SSD.

One bad frame can cost you a lot. So I have no problem paying a premium for known to work SSDs. I also like that if something was to go wrong it is only CD I have to contact, and they can't say oh it is probably a bad Sandisc call them. The CD tech support is fantastic 24/7. I know DK often takes calls in the middle of the night.

?? You can record HD at 30fps on the 7Q without the Sony RAW option. Set the output of the FS700 to HD. Set the 7Q to HD->HDprores, done. The Sony RAW option is exactly that, for RAW output from the FS700. If you don't need that, you don't need to buy it.

So again do the toshiba ones work?
The thread starter says they do.

BUT, here's the ting about SSDs: With which codecs and frame rates? How full can the drives be and still work? What's the endurance? Any temperature differences? Does it have powerloss protection? How do you get hold of THAT particular SSD that works and how much work and how many returns do you need to go through in order to get it in your hands? And will you be able to buy it 1 year from now? And if you get hold of one, will the first one work, but the second one doesn't? (Same model number, etc) Just a few things that come to mind in regards to how the SSD business operate and what on the surface appears to be the same drive, but then it isn't.

Yes that's what I was asking. Do they work? (if they need any sort of ''tweaks'' then the thread is just boring). Again, do they work like CD SSDs? if yes, that would be a great find. Doubtful though because of the ''tweaks'' remark...
