Odyssey 7Q SSD card reader / data transfer?

I've never worked with SSD cards before and I was wondering for the 7Q, do I buy a card reader or do we just transfer the data through a cable from the 7Q unit to an external hard drive source?

I went to B&H and typed in SSD Card Reader and it came up with nothing. If there is an SSD card reader, is there one that you guys would recommend?

Gene,
You have several options. I would assume the primary option is to remove the card and read it external to the O7Q. This being the case, here are the options I use:
1-buy an external hard drive/ssd reader like the ones available from Rosewill. These readers usually accept either SATA or USB3.
2-buy a PSata cable connecter. The PSata cable will power the SSD off of the PSata port on your computer, as well as access the drive space.
3-buy a simple Sata to USB3 converter to d/l your files.

There really are many ways to read the data. Just pick one.

Our SSDs fit into standard 2.5" eSata interfaces. If you don't have a computer with a slot, then you can use a simple adapter. The Seagate GoFle adapters are nice and they are fairly inexpensive. They are available in Thunderbolt and USB3.0 and Firewire 800. I wouldn't suggest the Firewire800 because that will be a pretty slow connection. I think these adters sell for around $25-$50.

Sorry being really thick, could someone post a product code or suchlike for "Seagate GoFlex Thunderbolt" - most google results seem to be for external HDs

Pretty sure this is it:

It's designed for Seagate drives in a proprietary case that just exposes the internal drive's SATA/power connection so I imagine bare 2.5" SSDs work but will be a bit loose hanging off the SATA plug, no? Reviews seem to say its good for bare SSDs even if it wasn't exactly meant for them.

Yes that's the one. I believe it's quite difficult to get hold of and it may even be discontinued (not sure if i read that right...)

You just whack the SSD into the connector bare and it will be mounted as normal

Blimey. So that's another thing to buy for the kit that I forget about. So far I've got:

O7Q
3x256 drives
Battery power cable
NP battery adaptor plate (probably)
Coiled BNC Cables
SSDinterface
Interface cables
Sunhood
Rain cover
Hard Carry case

Anything else I'm forgetting?

I'm suddenly realised I was totally spoiled by Atomos' decision to ship the Samurai with absolutely everything you need to get working (except the sunhood and rain cover).

Mitch,
I thought that under certain circumstances the 7Q recorded to both SSd's simultaneously. If so, the card reader might have problems. Did I get that wrong?

Correct, you perform a merge. We have a free utility for this. It is very straightforward. See page 26 in the Odyssey7Q manual.

The Seagate STAE104 (USB 3.0) is now discontinued, however the STAE101 is still available, contains both the STAE104 adapter and a PC Express USB3.0 adapter. The star tech works but it needs AC power, fine if you're working in an office, but no good if you want to ingest/free up disk space out in the field.

ive never read that information: Is it possible to power the CD SSDs with a Sata to USB2(500mA) adapter or is USB3(max 900mA i guess) needed?

You can power them off USB2, but trust me you don't want to. USB2 will result in VERY LONG data transfers. We're talking overnight to download an SSD.
