Odyssey 7Q next firmware will do 4:4:4 RGB from f3, so probably f35 too

I must admit that the details on the F3 have faded a bit from my memory. I can't quite recall what is and what isn't in the upgrade. I'm pretty positive that you can record the dual-link 1080p60 and perhaps even the 3G single-link 1080p60. If so then that would be the preferred method, using the first of the two BNCs right under the viewfinder. My memory tells me that when the camera is set to 1080i60, the output from these two ports is actually 1080p60. The camera itself always shoots in progressive and it is only to comply with the video broadcast standard that it would strip fields out of the 1080p60 signal to turn it into a 1080i60 to record to XDCAM on the SxS cards.

The Odyssey7Q+ will record 1080p60 in Apple ProRess in HQ, 422, or LT.

The Odyssey7Q+ can be powered from any DC voltage from 6.5-34v. I'm not sure what you mean by a "regular 12v DC cable". The Odyssey7Q+ you rent will need to have cables supplied with it to plug into such power sources. We make them with an XLR4 connector and with a D-Tap connector, both of which are pretty standard for 12v power in the industry. But there is not a big XLR4 power socket on the Odyssey7Q+ like there is on the F3 camera body, that would be a huge chunk of real estate on the Odyssey7Q+ housing. We use a small Neutrix connector, which is why we make a variety of cables to plug into accessor power ports.

A Sony PMW-F3, sans upgrade key, will indeed output 1080 60p via dual link. 3G output however, I beleive is limited to cameras with the upgrade installed.

it will be able to grab the 4:4:4 rgb - exciting news as maybe the lightest, most energy-efficient way to now grab 4:4:4 images from the camera.

Errrr... wouldn't the lightest/cheapest way to get 444 be the PIX-E5?? Or is there some reason why it wouldn't work with the F3? :-/

5 inch vs 7 inch, I just kinda feel 5 inch is the sweet spot for on camera monitor.

Today, perhaps, however you quoted eddavid from a post in July 2014, and the PIX-E5 only started shipping a few days ago, a year after eddavid wrote his post.

That said, a used Odyssey 7Q or Genesis might be cheaper than a PIX-E5.

CD had to do some legwork to get the 444 12-bit signal to work over the dual link SDI line. Currently the original sound devices pix is the only other modern recorder to be used with the dual link 444 signal, problem is you needed a multiplexer to combine the two SDI cables into one 3g connection. Does the new pix recorder have the ability to record from two single link SDI cables and combine into one signal?

The other thing to consider is the F35 outputs a unique Sony pSf signal. Most recorders, the hyperdeck, ki pro, atomos blade/samurai work fine with the F35 422 10-bit signal. It is the ability to record the 12-bit 444 signal from the F35 and read correctly the Sony pSf signal split over 2 SDI that make the 7Q unique. It is yet to be seen if the pix 5" will be able to read and record the signal correctly. Even though the pix may advertise 12-bit 444 does not guarantee it will work with the F35. Worst case you need a Aja LUT box to remove the pSf and turn the signal into true progressive.

Thanks for the support and everything you state about our F35 support is correct. But for clarity the last bunch of posts have been about the F3.
