Odyssey 7Q next firmware will do 4:4:4 RGB from f3, so probably f35 too

it will be able to grab the 4:4:4 rgb - exciting news as maybe the lightest, most energy-efficient way to now grab 4:4:4 images from the camera.

We only noted F3 because that is all we have tested it with at this time. But yes, I do think it might work. I also think the F3 S-Log monitoring LUT may be of use, but you should test to make sure it is accurate for your camera.

Considering the F3 444 is 10bit, I'm going to guess this means only 10bit 444 recording for the timebeing.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hope they solve it on the Odyssey. Still hoping to capture Sony's PsF implementation on 12bit DPX one day...
I have a Gemini, and experimented with every setting / frame rate available on the camera and recorder,
while the Gemini receives the 12 bit signal and is able to display it on-screen, it gives a 'format not recognized error' and doesn't allow signal to be recorded.

I am so happy about this Mitch - I can't wait to try it I think on Monday. So it can capture 12-bit 4:4:4 from the canon c500 and I assume go to DPX. I think I asked before, but curious about pro res 4444 - is it too processor intensive for the O7Q?

The Sony S log lut sounds amazing - and I assume you can load your own 3d luts? That's going to be incredible!!! And from the feed out if its possible to send the lut?

The other things that have been interested me in possible ideas for the future of the O7Q:

1. a vectorscope option.
2. time of day timecode generated by the O7Q
3. a way to jam sync timecode into the 07q without having to leave the timecode feed in
4. analog audio setting - doesn't seem to work with my mini mic or my juiced link box
5. a way to lock the screen while recording. my sticky hands are making the screen go a little nuts. Maybe there is a way and I don't see it.
6. some way to get that 4k hdmi feed in - I guess using some sort of converter box. I rather buy a 2nd O7Q than buy an Atomos Shogun!
7. a lightweight battery mount option

So happy for this firmware update!

Lots of stuff here. In order:

- Compressed codec in 4444 is coming in the future. But we have 4K compressed to finish first.
- User-defined 3D-LUTS are sometime in the future. For now it is the ones that we provide. Right now when a LUT is selected it effects the OLED, the Imaging Tools and both the SDI and HDMI outputs. Everything except the recording itself. In the future we plan to make the output of the LUT addressable.

- Vectorscope in future update.
- Timecode updates are in this firmware. More info in the detailed release notes coming with the firmware on Monday.
- Analog audio will be enabled in a future update
- Screen Lock has been in there since Day 1. Press the F1 button on the left side of the housing. The front panel is even labelled F1 LOCK. Press again to unlock.
- 4K over HDMI -- news to come on this in the future, but we have a commitment to provide a path to this
- Lightweight battery options exist today, but I guess you need to define lightweight. You can run the thing off a small and cheap camcorder battery. I have a HyperJuice2 battery for my MBP that has the same power as a Dionic 90 and is almost exactly the same size as an Odyssey7Q. Thinking about making a bracket to stick them together. But we have nice simple ready-made solutions for the camcorder batteries.

Wait, didn't it do this already? I remember recording 10bit DPX 444 a couple months ago.

awesome Mitch - all sounds amazing. You guys are cranking it out!!

The custom 3d LUT thing is going to be really nice. Oops I never tried the 10 bit DPX stuff from the f35. I'm a fool.

O7Q could read the 12bit output before through dual link but only recorded 10bit DPX files - the real question on Monday is if this new update allows it to record the full 12bit DPX files instead of just 10bit. Would be nice. I'll take Prores 4444 as well as soon as it's ready Mitch!

Once, which seems like it will be relatively soon, they have Prores 4444 60p recording implemented in the O7Q it really will be the best recorder for the f35 I think, meaning you will be able to swap between 24/30p 4444 12bit and the 50p 422 outputs on the fly in the camera and the Odyssey will pick all that up automatically and record the full quality. right now i'm switching between the prores mode and the DPX mode for different shooting scenarios, but will be nice to just have one mode on the recorder and let the camera handle the rest!

Just did a quick test - PSF issue is fixed so the monitor displays the signal correctly (it always recorded it correctly, but used to display it sort of interlaced or halfrez) - but DPX still maxes out at 10-bit. Otherwise very nice! Haven't tested the Slog LUT yet, or anything else, but progress is being made!

uhhhh..... I was under the impression this thing could record 1080p50 DNxHD...

"The monitor comes with a compressed DNxHD codec included and also supports several high-speed RAW and HD recorder options, sold separately. The included DNxHD codec will record up to 1080p60/50 10-bit 4:2:2"

That sentence is on almost every site selling the thing. Am I completely mad?

and prores maxes out at 30p currently.... DPX is great and all but the data rate and workflow make it pretty unmanageable.

Do we have a timeline for DNxHD? or Prores 50p?

Im about to rent an Oddyssey 7Q+ for an upcoming project. Could anyone confirm that it can take a non upgraded F3 dual-link 1.5G and record 1080/60p?

My expectation is that it should work fine, but perhaps Mitch Gross can jump in.

Granted, since you're renting, perhaps you can do a test at the rental house before committing?

Thank you, yes hopefully I have the time to try it out before, but the schedule is quite tight.

When Im at it, since I don't find it clearly expressed: can you power the Oddyssey from an regular 12V DC-cable? I have one of those set up for my BM Shuttle right now, so that would make the powering much easier.
