[WTB] Octocopters for 5DII or BMPCC (Europe)

Have you flown a multicopter before? If it's your first one I'd start with more modest ideas, say a Phantom II with a GoPro 3 Black.

Personally, no... But i know people who have and will teach me.

Not interested in gopro quality (or lack of)

It doesn't matter if you know even experienced RC flyers you need practice, they're not as fail safe as made out to be, GPS can glitch for example (only ArduCopter has coded glitch protection), so you'd need to know how to recover in ATTI or Manual, plus you'd need to invest in a GPS tracker such as Fi-Li-Fi: http://www.quadinnovators.co.uk/

GoPro can be high quality you can swap out the lens for one without fisheye for example.

There are stunning videos being done with the GoPro, I noticed Hugo Goudswaard who does some great Vimeo content invested in one this week, this is his first video:

If you start off with a 5D be prepared to see it lost with a GPS glitch or crashed and smashed to pieces.

If you want a RTF copter, speak to Quadcopters, they know what they're doing: http://www.quadcopters.co.uk/

thanks for the advice... I will likely buy a cheaper quadcopter to practice on, but we do need the larger kit for projects in the pipeline, that will have experienced crew.

Jay, if you start off with a Phantom check this Facebook group out, there are some knowledgeable people on it, from RC flyers, to multicopter builders and video people too: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DJIGuys/

Once you get some practice and move to a bigger platform I would then look to move to a carbon fibre frame, my personal favorites are the the Vulcan Mantis (this can carry a DSLR) and Sky Hero Spyder (not tried myself but the frame is very robust frame so I assume could too)...

If you intend to do video for commercial use, i.e. to sell the footage, you need to get the BNUC-S qualification, not doing so can land you in trouble. A hobbyist that innocently sold footage of a school fire to the BBC was investigated by the CAA recently.

Jay,
I'd practice on the Phantom w/ GoPro & Zenmuse H3-2D Brushless Gimbal by DJI, it's like $869 all together. The DJI S800 would come next, with the Zenmuse Z15-GH3 brushless gimbal able to hold the GH3. DJI just announced the S1000 and Zenmuse Z15-5D Gimbal at CES. There's some great looking pictures online. DJI's autopilot system w/ built-in GPS makes it super easy to fly. I own 3 phantoms myself. shot this recently: http://vimeo.com/79273717

The S800 isn't that good, it's a frame that isn't that well built, DJI have had to bring out stronger arms and anti-vibration kits.

There are much better built and better value options, the new Carbon Core Cortex is a very practical frame, strong with retractable landing gear, fold away arms and with MaxAmps batteries, able to fly almost 25 minutes as per this example.
