I love this site for all I've learned in it, but hey guys, 90% of what I see here is GUNS and more GUNS. What is wrong with you "young filmmakers"? I honestly can't understand how after all this years of ridiculous blood glamourising you are not totally fed up!!

Yeah, I had my fun with fake guns, and I've moved on. I'm not saying I'll never use them again, but I've strayed away from blood, guns, and violence for awhile to focus on other types of films.

I understand your point of view though. I think that it's probably just exciting for young filmmakers to use something like guns and blood in their film because they get to make it look as realistic as they can, without it actually being REAL. Which is what narrative film is. MAKE BELIEVE! :)

haha, I don't know. Just an idea.

yeah. I havent made a film with a gun in it yet but that's mainly because I don't know where I can get a realistic looking fake one. I don't think a short film made without guns is the sign of a mature filmmaker. I think a gripping story is the sign of a mature filmmaker. Good stories can be told with or without guns. The story is the important part.

I think it just ties into the whole boys playing soldier, or cops and robbers, or cowboys and indians thing. I went through a Tarantino phase when I started making films. Now I'm a little more wrapped up in characterization and humor. I do use guns occasionally for comedic effect, but they're rarely fired, they're just there as random props.

What the hell's wrong with guns? Guns happen to be kool. If they don't belong in a movie they don't get in, but if they do.. they do. I have made shorts with guns and have made them with no guns. If you're worried about blood why don't you go after gore movies. Seem to be a hell of a lot of them lately, and I believe movies like Hostel (though I liked it) are more violent than any gun movie. Oh yea, and it's not the "young filmmakers" that like the guns. I'm an old fart and will use them every time it fits.

Why is this in the "clips" section? Voice your opinion in the "general", or "cafe" section.

Oh, and BXL... I don't know where you came up with "90% is guns", cause I've been on this site for awhile now, and though I have seen footage with guns, it's definitely not anywhere near 90% of what I see on here. Not my taste in films, but it doesn't bother me one bit.

Yeah I don't see that many shorts involving guns anymore. But when I do see a gun I usually get turned off. There are some good examples of using guns that looks great (Forever War - HVX Clips section) but most of the time it's teenagers goofing around. When that's the case it's still all in a good time, but it just doesn't attract my attention enough to finish the whole short. Violence is on our streets, it's a reality of our life. I'd rather do a short involving guns and violence then do porno... well, maybe.
