Hi All:

I have a friend traveling to New York and Washington DC in the next couple of days and I want to order a 16gb card from her.
She will only be in Manhattan and DC downtown area...
Can anyone recommend a good store were I can tell her to go get the cards for me?
Thanks in advance!!!

B&H has abnormal hours for a NYC store. Be sure to call ahead to see if they are open (Closed Fridays early and all day Saturday as well as many Jewish Holidays)

alex... why do you say that? I've had great experiences with B and H... alteast on mail orders.. never visited them in person..

Unless you are in a state that doesn't have sales tax, you have to pay a use tax.

Some states limit the amount for video production, but this is a huge fallacy about sales tax for those states that have a use tax.

Get audited and it can get pricey

We are about an hour and a half from D.C. and we have 32GB cards in stock. Let me know if we can be of any help. We have a delivery driver in downtown D.C. every Monday and Thursday of every week so we can always have him meet up with you somewhere and that way you don't have to pay sales tax.

Not a thing wrong with B&H, IMO. I've bought a huge amount of gear there, always in person (I live nearby).

The "unusual" schedule is indeed due to Jewish ownership, Orthodox I believe. So they're closed:

-Every Friday afternoon thru Saturday for Sabbath.
-All Jewish holiday/holy days, including many that are not well known like "Purim" (March 20-21 this year) and "Tisha B`Av" (August 10) and others, some of which are a week or longer. Their holiday schedule for the entire year is on their site.

But they are open on Sundays, which is quite handy aside from the fact that the store tends to be quite crowded. And almost all the other big NYC camera/video shops are similarly run. Haven't tried AbelCine in NYC yet. They're pretty far downtown from me. Guess I should pay them a visit one of these days...

What makes Abel Cine so great is that they are a rental house so they are a very knowledgable Panasonic dealer... they have all they're gear out, it's not beat up, not missing an eyecup and it's not attached to wires and little alarm sensors... I asked the guy at B&H if he could take the PMW-EX1 off the tripod so that I could try out it's touted adjustable grip handle. He said no the alarm will go off. and then he dissappeared somewhere.... they usually don't have all their camera gear out and roll their eyes if you ask them to pull it up so that you can see it before you buy it.... dont' get me wrong, I buy from B&H all the time, but Abel Cine is better...

I don't have anything against B&H, I just prefer Abel or Spec Comm which actually is also extremely helpful, knowledgeable and competitive.
