Hi friends ,

Im going to shoot a video for my friend and his dad as they take a trip to NY for the first time. Ill be shooting with a canon xh-a1 with the canon WD-wideangle lense attached.

I cant decided on what frame rate to shoot though. 60i or 24f. what do you guys think is better for a day out in the city video? 24f?

Thanks,
Chris

Without knowing the style that you're going for, there's no good answer anyone can give you.
First of all, is it mainly for the web? If so, definitely avoid 60i. Deinterlacing 60i for the web will cut down on the resolution significantly.
So that leaves you with 24f, OR 30f (unless there's a specific reason you didn't mention 30f / can't use it?). If you're taking a more cinematic approach to it, 24f would be the typical way to go. If you're making it more like an average day in the life video, either 30f or 60i would be more "normal." What you choose of those should depend on the delivery method.

Another consideration will be the sound .. imo if you can, put a lav on dad on Tk1 (on son for some scenes) via an XLR .. and an external XLR shotgun on Tk2 .. mix to taste.

Oh and stay outa the Brooklyn camera shops, but have fun.

Cheers.
