GH2 Now what lenses to buy 12mm Oly vs. 12-35mm Panasonic

I've been holding off on getting the 12mm Oly waiting for the 12-35mm Panny X and was actually about to pull the trigger, but now it seems the 12-35 is pretty much around the corner and within sight, so is anyone else thinking it's safe to put the 12mm Oly off the wish list or no?

I'll miss the extra stop it gives and love how it autofocus perfectly (the main reason I love it is I do glidecam work for events which are dark so it's the perfect fit and something Canon lacked).

I'm thining of just getting the 12-35 now and if I need the extra speed I could try getting a 17.5mm notkon to work on a glidecam in a pinch.

Also I'm still dying to see a 17.5 vs. 25mm comparison article / thread - anyone that has or tried both hit me up or post a link if you've found a comparision online that goes into detail.

The X Zooms aren't around the corner, you probably won't see them until around Christmas time is what I wager. At least not until the big trade show later this year.

Did you check e-p1 and 43rumors.com? Sure it may be a rumor, but they're damn accurate. May 21st panny announces it's ready early summer along with the Oly 75mm 1.8. June's just a few weeks away.

Hi Psynema,

I'm in a similar quandary. I currently own the SLR Magic 12mm, but I just haven't fallen in love with it the same way I did the Nokton 25mm. I shoot weddings and I'm looking to get a Glidecam for my GH2 and was thinking of selling the SLR Magic to fund the Panasonic 12-35mm. My thinking is that it will be a lot more versatile for my work and have the added benefit of OIS for handheld and Glidecam, BUT everyone raves about the Olympus 12mm, and I can't deny the benefit of f2.

I follow 43rumors and am hopeful for a June release too so eagerly awaiting the reviews!

BTW, which Glidecam model did you go for? I'm running my GH2 alongside an AF100 and I just can't decide which one to buy for. I was thinking of getting a HD1000 for the GH2 for size, weight and price benefit, but worried about it being so light that wind will affect it outside. I'm guessing AF is an awesome help when flying?

Psynema, after watching several of your Oly 12mm/glidecam vids you posted (great wedding in late summer and the super bowl commercial convention) I pulled the trigger and got the Oly 12mm in March. Had to do a wedding so made a quick decision to get it. Fantastic lens! Would have never purchased this had I not seen your work.

Would love to add the 11-16 to my "Nikon" collection (although I'm loathe to buy another $200 Novoflex adapter, as good as it is) but you could get the lighter, sharper (I'm guessing because it's prime), AF-enabled Olympus for less.

The argument for the Tokina is the focal range and a bit of future-proofing should you move away from m43. Can the IQ really match the Olympus though?

Rumour is that the Panasonic 12-35 will be coming in at circa $1000. It will probably work out more expensive, but it will be a lot handier than the Tokina on an m43 camera.

Oh... I sure do love a good lens decision!!!!!

I try not to tie up money in native M4/3 mount lenses, and rather invest in glass that will mount on any future camera purchase.
