Not write-protecting can really cause THIS?

I hooked up my camera to my Macbook Pro and copied and pasted the whole "No Name" drive. Using FCP 5.1.4 and the Panasonic P2 import function, I can successfully see and play the list of MXF files but I can't successfully transfer them. When I attempt to do so the circular arrow spins as if it's working but there is no action in the progress bar and, after a few seconds, it stops altogether and the exclamation point icon appears and it goes idle. Attempts to retry fail and unchecking the pulldown option in preferences has no effect. Same when trying directly from camera.

I can’t believe not write-protecting the cards have caused this. Oh, Panasonic.

I've recently encountered a 32gb R-series card that had a bad sector that caused my file transfer to lock up at the same spot multiple times. I ended up having to identify where the sector was by tracking where the Log and Transfer process would fail and convert the clip "around" the bad portion. In the end, I had do lose 10 seconds of clip, but it was better than losing the entire card.

I appreciate the advice, but it's incredibly broad considering the spectacularly narrow problem. Can you tell me exactly where my exact problem is addressed? You provide links to nothing either broad nor specific.
