Does the industry get noticeably slower around the holidays?

This was mentioned in another thread and I'm wondering how true it is. This is essentially my first year working in the film world, and it seems like its impossible to get a gig anywhere near December. I've got plenty of them lined up for "late January" and onward, but the next month and a half seems dead.

Just wondering if I'm crazy or this is something I should come to expect.

Totally, my office has been super quiet lately, usually like this this time of year, but more so this year with the economy.

Depends what you do. There are still weddings in the winter months. I've been really busy since Thanksgiving and have two more between Christmas and New Years.

Last year not so much though; so - it always depends.

My agent and manager both close shop at the end of this week. The same will be happening all around town (Hollywood), typical for the holidays. I was bummed, a script of mine was going out to a studio producer this week but he's already bailed, now we have to wait till January :(

things get slow on our other stuff, but since we got video game related ties, stuff is still mighty busy for us here. ill be spending xmas morning at the office

Yes. It's completely normal and not part of our recent economic woes.

All the way up the chain, things always slow down. Not just for indie.

I work at a big camera rental house and big productions/ tv shows are wrapping up around this time... and TV pilots don't start until early in the year. It's nothing to be concerned about and as Nic mentioned, many productions still shoot in the winter.

Especially indie productions. Because most have 'real' jobs and find the extra holiday time good periods to make the side film projects.

It will start up mid to end of January and continue to rise again.

Best,

It varies, but never be shocked if it's dead this time of year. I thought I'd be completely dry after Thanksgiving, but I managed a couple of goods weeks. Now, though, zip. So we're taking off on Monday in the family truckster for Christmas fun with the famiglia.

I usually have some kind of work through the beginning of December but haven't had any paying work this year since early November. It's been a good time to finish some old projects and study for my finals. But it will be a lean Christmas.

dry as a bone, even for renting gear out. seems like no one else is shooting either. good time to do Lossfest and prep for any festivals I suppose.
