Not The Same by DvPixl

I have to admit, the editing hides alot of things and also pushes for emotions that were never there in the take... but I guess that's what editing is all about.

Bingo.

Great film! The cinematography was simple, yet dramatic. I liked that there was some grain in the image. It sets it apart from the same looks that a lot of us are gravitating to (myself included).

The acting was great and the story was elegant. This film has one of the best endings in the fest. I think this has trumped Eighteen Seconds as my fave. Yours is the better story IMHO.

there was somthing honest about these performances. Where acting has hurt quite a few films in this festival, here it improved it. Nicely crafted!

hello very impressive film maker dudes.

absolutely loved the acting on this one. The story was ok for me.. but I did enjoy how it was all put together..

Ok, I just watched this twice now. Am I missing something? Acting was great, lighting, cinema.. etc. great. But, double Tee eph?

So she's the same girl? Are they two different girls? Did she borrow money, go away for the theatre gig and then come back regular women? A little help on the storyline? :)

I assumed most people would get it rightaway based on the character's conversation

hope no one assumed the wrong thing about the ending.

Eric is fond of his sister in law, the twin sister of his wife. She made a surprise visit asking for money, he couldn't say no.

later his wife, who we saw leaving for work from the first frame, comes back home at night... is that dinner? yep.
the end.

OK, now that you explained it.. It makes more sense. But, alas, the dialog mentions nowhere that they are 'twin sisters' and well.. I thought they looked the same, but haheheheh . They are "not the same"

Poor guy. Stuck with the boring of the two. I've been in a similar situation. Long ago I dated this girl but her sister was ten times cooler. and 6 years younger hehehe ;) Look out!

thanks for the scoop and congrats on the film.

i know what you mean though, I've had been with my ex and then with another woman... you can't sees to foget one person perhaps he used to love the sister but had to settle with the one he is married too, due to who knows what. i know i've been in situations where i've settled. It's not the same, and it sucks.

LOL.

I should also mention that his wife despises her sister... based on one line, "well, its not like I'm doing any better with the whole situation"

5th review:

i didnt understand the beginning until explained to me by a friend watching with me. I felt again these movies suffer from no beginning or problem presented or any reason to keep me interested. An essential core for even existing rather than to just find something to shoot.

In this instance though, atleast i feel there is much potential for creative lighting and cinematography. if it can be used to move a story rather than to impress or practice a shot is what time will tell, but i loved the lighting the most.

when she asks finally, i thought whats the big deal? I also felt, if im correct in my understanding, is that the guys current girlfriend or wife, whos dressed rather nicely and drives a rather nice car is liiving with him, that she would be able to support a better apartment, underlit and dirty inside with old pizza for dinner didnt seem like a standard living for them, especially with her in it and disgusted by his dinner.

i just didnt see the reason for this story, what was the problem in it? it was like watching a webcam and life just goes by , a person asks for money, thats it.

acting went from very weak to decent to weak and good, more consistancy from the actors would be better.

though not all bad, camera work was nice!

maybe i should give a disclaimer before i get warned? ( i had to stop reviewing horrorfest because i wasnt being that positive, this is how i feel and i guess ill just post until im stopped again)

thanks Cynic821 for complimenting my lighting and camera work. I think that's all I care about at this time. I'm not much of a storyteller. but in this instance, I was able to squeeze out a sequence of images that go together to tell 'a moment in life'- as many have put it here in their comments. I relied strongly on the last shot to wrap up the story- wife comes home and we find out she is the twin sister of the previous girl our male lead was conversing with.

dvpixl again great acting u should have bunch table short in one movie and at the end the ending all comes togher and each little story has signafence withe the other story with charaters crossing story , i think u get what i mean lol and what happen to the guy who played the druggy in druggy ?????????????????

peace n luv

This was one of my favorite films. I loved the pacing, the subtext, and the space between the characters. It felt very natural. I was completely drawn in to this little story.

Great job.

Why thank you Chris....

I hate to think that this little short caused(cost) me to sell my Letus Flip because I just didn't like it anymore... but now I regret it because I could've done so many filmic things with it and take advantage of that dirty, 35mm look(at weddings). I think my LETUS was especially dirty. And what I never got was when I turned it in all the way on the thread, the framing was always crooked. I had to leave it loose in order to have a straight, less vignetting frame. which made it difficult to rest it correctly on the rod support. I do regret it now...

...but I also couldn't deal with getting the focus on the DVX right (82%?) as well as on the lens- which made it difficult altogether, the effort was something that I felt wasn't worth suffering for- and also because the lens mount somehow stripped my 50mm and it was always coming off.
