I'm not happy with my slow motion conversion from GH1(hack) footage. Looks jerky.

My technique:

Footage is 720p 60fps

I drop it into Sony Vegas Video in a project set to 24p. I then lower "velocity(speed)" to 40% of original. I then convert it for youtube using high quality 720p wmv 24p format.

thoughts?

thanks

Technique sounds correct. I'm not a Vegas user myself, but in many editors the general workflow is to set it to 40%

You tube only displays 30fps-so don't waste your time with 24P.
Create a 30P timeline in Vegas, drop your 60P footage in, and either used Velocity envelopes at 40 to 50%, or, cut the footage, then hold the control key down while you drag it til it's around 40%.
Sounds like with the Velocity Envelope, you've slowed it down about double what you should have.
Also, don't "convert" anything. Just render in 1280X720/30P MP4, and upload it You Tube. Bit rate should be between 5 and 8Mbs.

I tried a similar workflow in FCP and ran into trouble. By slowing the footage down, FCP first converted the 60p footage to the editing timebase of 30 then tried to frame blend the now missing frames. My work around was to first load the footage into AE and reinterpret the 60p footage to 30p with twice the duration. Reimport this footage into FCP and the edit was perfectly smooth. I'm not sure if Vegas differs from FCP in the way it handles slowing the footage. If anyone has found a better way to convert within FCP I'd love to hear about it.

I've posted the resulting video in another thread here.

Actually your project properties should reflect the main clip properties 1280 x 720 59.94fps progressive and disable resample in clip properties as suggested above. The slow down as required on the timeline and export as 24p to vimeo. Shutter speed should be 100 or 125.

Wouldn't a higher shutter speed be better? Here's a guide I found from one of my favorite video bloggers.

She used Vegas but this was for the HV20 and starts with 60i footage so skip the 60i to 60p and go to the 60p instructions. I've never done it myself, but it's way more involved and detailed that what I'm seeing here and it's designed for freeware tools and Vegas.
