Not FCP related, but nothing on the display.

This is a general troubleshooting question I guess. I think the video card is dead. At least, I hope that's all it is.

Macpro 2x2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

Running Leopard, but I don't know if it's 10.5.4 or 10.5.5. I want to say it's 10.5.5 or later. Anyway, it's like the Mac's asleep and won't wake up. I tried rebooting holding Command, Option, P, R, as instructed by the user manual. Still nothing. The monitor is plugged in, I even tried switching ports on the back of the Mac. Nothing.

Any ideas here before I call tech support? :dankk2:

WHICH monitor? That's important

For example, some Apple Cinema Displays have an on/off button on the right side of the panel to turn them on and off.

Acer AL2216W

I was getting a "No Signal" message from the monitor earlier this week. Just like I put it to sleep.

I have a Dell Ultrasharp in the mail

Just a heads up on tech support. There is none for anything non Apple like an Acer.

If it is an OEM video card, yes, but the company will request that you even uninstall non Apple RAM for those type issues.

Okay, so will they at least help me diagnose if it's a video card issue? The video card is OEM. The only non-Apple equipment is the monitor. I can't even hardware test it since nothing is displayed. Whenever the Dell gets here, I'll at least be able to rule out the monitor.

I have all the symptoms of a graphics card meltdown. Blank monitor, previously unresponsive mouse and programs. I guess I'll give that a shot.

Any thoughts on the NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT?

Would the graphics card cause my footage to look unbelievably pixelated on the monitor? I think it looks much worse with the 8800.
